I firmly believe that Trudeau as spineless as he is will give in to whatever demands Donald Trump is asking for. The LPC does not have Canadians best interests at heart and while the CPC may not either they at least have a backbone to stand up to Trump.

So Trudeau and the LPC actually have a record of dealing with that administration during the 2017 to 2021 term. Is there any actual policy or action that you can point from then that is either spineless, did not have Canada's best interests at heart, or just giving into American demands?

Because that characterization is at odds at how I recall the period. In particular, the Americans were pretty frustrated at how the Canadian side stood up for our interests during the USMCA negotiations.

If Trudeau were not indifferent to the fortunes of the Liberal Party, he would prorogue and announce his resignation as leader, and allow the Liberals to select a new leader prior to a summer or fall election campaign. Not to save the government but to stave off a Kim Campbell-scale wipeout and a hope to maintain official party status.

At this point, I would much rather have PP than Trudeau facing Trump.

That's already been proven to be false. Canadian conservatives are bending over for Trump any chance they can get. It took PP a week to come out against Canada becoming the 51st state.

Indeed, I have seen nothing from Poilievre to suggest he is capable of leading a country, let alone represent Canada's interests. I hope I am pleasantly surprised; I rather suspect he will not be good

Liberals be like:

Good. Why did it take the election of Trump to see Ottawa finally take the immigration file seriously?

Excellent. Now cancel family reunification beyond immediate spouse and dependent children. It’s you and your children that we want, not your sickly grandparents or otherwise disqualified extended family. If grandma or cousin wants to live in Canada, she can apply like everyone else.

Lots of chatter. I think Trudeau resigns tomorrow (effective a month later) while calling a leadership race

Trudeau expected to announce resignation before national caucus meeting Wednesday

Smart move, leave now undefeated, with three wrecked Con leaders in your wake. And like his dad, I don’t think this will be the last we see of Justin Trudeau.

The question is.. will they have time to find a new permanent leader or will the opposition force the interim leader to run for PM?
Justin likely hopes the LPC goes to sh#t in this election without him. And while Tony Montana‘s right that every dog has his day, to his credit, without Justin Trudeau the Liberals would have never defeated Harper in 2014. Trudeau will be hoping for a come back in the 2030s.

Here’s some family context. In 1971, PM Pierre Trudeau, was called an "arrogant" leader by the opposition. To which he replied, "I am not arrogant, I am simply better than you."

Tough to do if the opposition brings down the government in the near future. Anybody in-house is tainted and Carney would have to campaign hard for both the party and himself (once he finds a safe riding). Otherwise, he would be leader from the gallery.
