Yup, wasted money being flushed down a toilet.

We know exactly what can be put in Old City Hall already and we know it will cost a lot, though, the 225M from a few year's aqo was based, to my understanding on a complete overhaul of building systems, restoration, and bringing the building up to code. While I wouldn't necessarily oppose that (likely 500M now), contrary to what City Staff suggest, that work is not, for the most part, strictly necessary, and more scoped work could allow for a Library Branch, a Museum of Toronto, a Wedding Chapel, and relocated City Administrative offices for lesser, upper floor spaces.

It's simply a choice to invest or not, re-studying the study doesn't lessen the costs or the risk, it just eats into the budget to actually do the work.

What do people think the most likely outcome is for this building? I know it's not going to be torn down but distressing to think that no one seems to be able to figure out what to do with it.

Office, co-working, museum, residential: all out of the question?

What is it going to take for it to be used again? Any chance three levels of government would get together to fund/finance its future?

Juat wondering what people thoughts are on this. My father in law is ninety and he was very involved in the saving of Old City Hall back when Eaton's wanted to tear it down....

Interesting regarding your grandfather. Bravo to him! Perhaps a library/Toronto tourism information with some sort of art/performance space/Architectural cultural lectures/restaurants cafes/Enclose the central space with an atrium gardens/Remodel+ redesign the front area for memorial services with gardens trees seating for all? Light it up for all to enjoy.

I identified the likely future uses in a post up thread.

While unfunded, there are line-items in the City's budget for relocating the City Hall library branch and making it a District Branch, A Museum of Toronto, and A wedding chapel.

It is likely that some upper floor office space would be refreshed as same for City staff.

In support of the wedding idea, and the museum a restaurant/banquet facility has been considered in the past as well.

These are the most likely outcomes. But the decision will need to be taken to find the money to make them happen, and that hasn't happened yet.
