If only. This will appeal to a demographic who have politicized the issue, whereas LRT investment has more of a sunken cost fallacy.

He does have a point about maintaining the public trust (although personally, I think the loudest/only voices are people with NIMBY tendencies, whether or not they're overt), but I don't understand the point he's making about infrastructure and planning... those factors (water, sewer, mobility) are examined in every single rezoning proposal that goes to council.

It does seem contradictory and not well thought out, pandering IMO, the infrastructure is just an excuse or rationalization. Surely, Cartmell of all councilors understands enough about infrastructure to know this is bs.

I'm mystified by the people on this forum who insist that we need to vote out the current council but won't say who they think we should vote in. Like, do you really think the Tim Cartmell Party would be better for the future of the city? or PACE?!

My main thing is that Cartmell supposedly had the backing of a chunk of the city's business community/leaders only for him to propose a motion that makes him the most anti-business/anti-deregulation candidate by far.

Like he's shooting himself in the foot here with this. He's supposed to be the most business friendly candidate yet is now somehow less business friendly than Sohi who's championing the CRL for investment.
 
What a stupid, disingenuous motion. He knows it won’t pass, so he won’t get blamed for stopping the construction, he’s just trying to stake out some bullcrap position. Instead, he could be a person with solutions and a plan, but he’s gonna play politics until the election,
 
That’s why I’m calling for a temporary pause on all new mid-block infill projects. This isn’t about stopping growth. It’s about fixing what’s broken before we add more to it.

I’m also supporting a motion to reduce the maximum number of row houses on mid-block lots from 8 to 6.

And I’m not stopping there.

I’m pushing for a full update of Edmonton’s District Plans. We need to stop reacting and start planning with intention. These plans should be built on real data, community input and smart modeling so we can guide our growth responsibly.

✅ Smarter infill
✅ Balanced growth
✅ Fast-tracked permits for responsible builders
✅ A new phase of District Planning
✅ Transparency and accountability for every community

Yes I voted in support of the City Plan. We need to build the kind of city that believes in bold ideas and recalibrates when we need to. This party will be one that embraces failure to fix it fast. This is the kind of city building I believe in. And it’s what I’ll deliver as your next Mayor.
