I like Andrew a lot as a person and even councillor, but unsure if I would support as a mayor. Not sure if the vision is there? But maybe that’s the need for the next 8 years anyways, not so much vision, but non inflammatory, collaborative, safe, compromise-seeking leadership.

Andrew is a a classic middle of the road guy, supporting bike lanes…but never actually pushing for them to be super well done. Supporting police, but not in a “right wing” sort of way. Wants to curb sprawl, but doesn’t disregard the suburbs.

If Mandel enters, how does he sit alongside Cartmell and Knack?

Caterina is not deserving of another role in office imo.
I feel vision these days can be a nice word for ideological rigidity or inflexibly, or lack of interest/ability to focus on deal with current problems, by those who are mostly interested in planning some type of supposedly wonderful future.

So, I would be glad to have a bit less vision right now and more ability to practically focus on and deal with current issues.

Honestly, I truly appreciate Knack's ability to stay cool. People can send him anything short of a death threat and he'll respond with "I totally see where you're coming from!" People-pleasing is a liability, but it's also an asset.

Devin Dreeshen to Edmonton cyclists: DROP DEAD

Mayoralty candidate Tony Caterina has stated his support for Dreeshen's letter.

I would like to hear Cartmell's comment on the this letter - both in terms of 132 Ave and the province weighing in on a city road project that it is not even funding.

I wanna know why this MAGA chud from Sylvan Lake is weighing in on a municipal issue.

The YEG Bike Coalition released a letter on Thursday opposing the province's stance against bike lanes.

"The YEG Bike Coalition strongly opposes the province of Alberta's proposed interference with the City of Edmonton's 132 Avenue collector renewal project, specifically the effort to remove long-planned, community-supported bike lanes and revert to a dangerous, outdated road design," the letter states.

"Let's be clear: 132 Avenue is a city-owned residential collector road. It's not part of Alberta's provincial highway system. The province does not fund this project, nor does it maintain or operate this roadway."

And get a load of this upcoming nanny state-ism:

Dreeshen added that Alberta could follow Ontario in legislating any new bike lane that comes from the removal of a vehicle lane would require provincial approval.

Ontario’s law, passed last year, also gave it the power to order municipalities to remove bike lanes and reinstall traffic lanes. A Charter challenge has been launched against parts of the bill.

I'd like to know 2 things:
1. Has this MAGA chud from Sylvan Lake ever ridden a bicycle or drove his RAM 1500 in the big city?
2. If the municipal leaders tell him to go pound sand, will this jeopardize the province's recent funding announcements for ICE District 2, Coliseum demolition, Norquest, etc?

I really doubt this MLA from rural Alberta is very familiar with this area of Edmonton, or interested in it, except perhaps as a political wedge issue.

Of course as there are no UCP MLA's in Edmonton, I doubt most of them really care about or understand our communities very well.

I'd be more concerned about Government of Alberta blocking Canadian Permanent Transit Fund funding with Bill 18. Probably a good thing that ETS is going through CUTA now instead of Edmonton Transit Riders (ETR).

Although...
