The last section will take quite a long time. We all forget there are a couple of LRT station roofs that will need to be resealed. So easily 4 years. The work has been differed but is coming do.

Ok, fine (well, not really, but ok..). But in the meantime, can we find time and resources to remove this ugly, decaying flower bed? Seriously, this could possibly be there until 2034?!? like 50+ years after it was installed?
Give me a jackhammer and I'll do it for free over a weekend. Heck, maybe we can get the Downtown community league in on this. Sell "demo" permits to anyone who wants to help. $10 gets you 10 mins with the jackhammer. We can time it for a farmer's market weekend. We'll let people can keep chunks of it as a souvenir to put on their fireplace mantle :)

If you're selling tickets then save me a couple.

Here is the timeline for the 114-124st Jasper Ave work starting this spring and a completion in 2027.

Unlike the 109-114st section, where they did westbound lanes one year followed by the eastbound lanes the next, with this next round of work both sides of the street will be completed in the same year and then they move further west. One lane will remain open in each direction for the 3 or 4 blocks where work is taking place and then Jasper Ave is fully open elsewhere.

The 114-124st project is about $30 million - and $8.7million of that is funded from the federal government's active transportation fund.

Extended CRL funding will cover this

Well... sort of...

CRL funding from the province doesn't actually pay for anything.

CRL funding for approved projects is simply the province agreeing to loan money to the City for the City to pay for that specific project.

Every single penny - plus interest - must be repaid to the province using city monies (ie property tax revenue) that would otherwise be available to spend elsewhere. It is a current council/administration method of committing future council's expenditures. There is some benefit to the City in that the cost of the loan is less than what the City would otherwise be able to borrow at but it is still not "free money". It's a bit of a shell game at both ends as the Province gets to treat the loan as an asset.

What about the education tax component? I was under the impression the province forgoes some of that money in the CRL.

I got a notice from EPCOR today about the water main relocations and upgrading along Jasper. The schedule is basically 114th to 117th from late March to late May/early June, 117th to 121 in late spring and summer, and 121st to 124th next spring/summer. They warn about the usual things surrounding utility relocations (potential noise from 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Saturday; road/lane closures, potential temporary water service needs).
