I went to check out the Yorkdale location a month ago for fun while I was there for other matters, and yes, it was horrible. The escalators were all broken and dirty with pebbles and spilled candy, and of course no one was really shopping there. This was on a Saturday, when the mall was bustling as usual.I was shocked to see how bad the Yorkdale store looked last year. You’re definitely not going to get anyone up to the top floor when the escalators are permanently closed.
This is the issue with Hudson's Bay for me... Take Yorkdale for example. When you have Holt's, a bunch of other designer boutiques, fast fashion, and mid-range clothing retailers in the same mall, people are just going to go check those out instead. Why go to The Bay for Ralph Lauren or Levi's when they got their own stores there with undoubtedly better stock, maybe even some good sales? Why should you go to The Bay if you're looking for luxury like LV or Dior? Why go to The Bay if you want fast fashion, when Yorkdale has H&M, Old Navy and Zara sitting right next to one another? It's redundant for most consumers, not just at Yorkdale, but almost everywhere these days.
