Latest Update:

Design work for the High Level Bridge rehabilitation is taking longer than planned as the rehabilitation required is more extensive than previously anticipated. Design is ongoing and options are under review. The High Level Bridge is currently safe for use. At this time, there is no construction timeline.

Manifesting that they will somehow return to the drawing board and approve the conversion of the upper deck to a shared walkway/bike path connecting downtown and whyte

This one is gonna be a doozy!

Bet it's close to a $500 mill rehab.

If the restoration cost is prohibitive, I wonder if something similar can be built there. There could be
a train ROW with a multiuse path, a wider road and a ROW for LRT.

If they did re-explore that, there'd need to be a lot better thought about integration with the streetcar than the High Level Line group gave.

Kill the streetcar and create a Highline.

Kill the streetcar and create a Highline.

Kill the thing that helps attract 100,000+ tourists to the Whyte and Jasper areas every year? The thing that takes people, by rail, between these two corridors without the city having to pay a dime since everything is done by volunteers? The thing that has been a boon for local businesses like The Common (their beer streetcar events always sell out, and many people like myself and my family have gone there after learning about them through these events), and attractions like the Legislature (which recently asked to partner with ERRS because a lot of passengers go there for tours anyway, and they want to build on that)? Kill one of the things that actually makes Edmonton an interesting place to be, all for a linear park whose proposal included streetcars (albeit, not in a well thought-out way)? Even the guys who originally pushed this concept recognized that the streetcar is an important addition to the area that is worth trying to integrate into that vision. All I'm asking is that they actually consider how to keep pedestrians off the rail, and draft a concept proposal that doesn't show the streetcars being half their actual width.
