The Dufferin Bridge is about 100 years old. There has been trouble with it since 2015. They are only now getting around to "access" it? The bridge over the Gardiner only since the 1960's.

the existing bridge was replaced with a "temporary" structure in 2014. The City has been trying to replace it, but has been held up by the Ontario Line. they are likely inspecting it for structural integrity as the temporary bridge was not anticipated to be in use for over a decade!

Curious as to why ML cares about the bridge with respect to the OL. The tail tracks for the line end around Mowat Ave, which is a good distance form the bridge.

Could it be related to the increased truck traffic using the bridge from the OL construction site? I know their in/out routes will change when the King & Dufferin streetcar tracks are replaced in the fall.

edit: Neither the current or future in/out routes involve using the bridge.

I looked again and realized there were many more pages involving truck routing. Turns out the assessment is indeed regarding truck routing, as the Dufferin Street bridge will be used as a primary inbound route pending this assessment, as explained on the last line of the first slide, but not the map. It's also shown on the following three maps as alternate routes for empty trucks, 2 of which are during the King & Dufferin streetcar track replacement.

I wonder why the Food Building is not utilized during the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy? Currently used just for storage. I maybe wrong.

Couldn't the construction workers of the Ontario Line and Exhibition Station make use of it during construction?

It is being prepped for the CNE at the moment. It is not able to be used for the Honda Indy.

As for the construction workers.. there's alot more to it than opening the doors. They need functional washrooms, water supplies and cleaning.

The operating costs to keep it open for the workers may make it cost prohibitive. They would be better renting a room long term at the beanfield centre or national trade Centre where they are operational year round.

The Fire Station is located close-by in Exhibition Place.
That station is located within the Indy track and the fire was being fought while there was a race in progress so I don't think they were able to respond to the call.

I never understood the appeal of the Food Building. Maybe the entrance and signage have some architectural value but the building itself is a warehouse shack...
... you can't really do the CNE without a functional food building.

I would suspect that some vendors (Maggie's and Primo for example) have long term leases there. Opening before and after events would mean staffing all the booths which may or may not be practical.

Would I like to see it operating for large events like the Indy or the World Cup? Yes.

... Don Boyle, chief executive of Exhibition Place ... “consideration for the Food Building to be a year-round offering is on the table,” he said.
It's seemed like an outdated dingy old warehouse for a long time. It would be good it if could be rebuilt into something newer and brighter.
I would think it could be built in a way that some small part of it along the north or east side of the building, maybe with 3 or 4 street-front outlets, could be open and used year-round by the transit station riders, and others arriving early before events at the Coliseum, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Budweiser Stage, etc., while another larger part could be used only during the CNE and used for storage the rest of the year. Maybe some part on the south side could be used only during soccer and football games at the stadium.
... How many even know that the Queen Elizabeth Theatre operates outside of CNE days?. See https://www.queenelizabeththeatre.ca/
I assumed it was only used outside of CNE days. When the JFL Comedy Fest was still happening, they would often have multiple shows a day there, except for one year when there was some kind of strike.

The smoke was seen on the live stream of one of the Sunday morning support races, even though it was only using stationary cameras.

Not necessarily wrong about the interior - but the exterior is Toronto Modern. I'd wish there could be some more intensive use of the building - perhaps with a well-considered addition atop.

It's a basic box with absolutely zero architectural distinction.

Agreed.

It was built in the 50s to replace an older building which was designed with grocers in mind. The Pure Foods building prior was akin to the Manufacturers Building in that it it was an exhibition hall showcasing the latest products from grocers such as Weston, Loblaws, etc.

The current building is less of a exhibition hall and more of a cafeteria. Long gone are the days of free samples but it does provide people with a central location to eat during the CNE.

It was designed with a purpose, not to win awards.
