  • Valley Line West unlocks WEM which is a massive trip generator, and probably isn't just a line effect on ridership but also a full network effect. Train is shinier than a bus and that's going to attract ridership from all over the city. You're an out of town tourist? Stay in a hotel downtown and just take the Valley Line to visit, etc. Misercordia is also a pretty good trip generator too. Unsure if it's going to be the same level as the U of A hospital but it's going to bump up numbers.

  • You do realize the line goes both ways right? Stay at WEM and take a trip downtown.
 
I wonder how many hotels are in reasonable vicinity of the LRT. The downtown hotels are the closest to LRT. The West Edmonton Mall area accommodations are along Stony Plain Road. Other hotels are along Gateway.
Yes, this could be an unexpected boost for downtown hotels on the weekends when they are not as busy It makes it easier for visitors who are not driving and for some who do, they can park and take the LRT.
 
I’m thinking if the main routes are heavily used (including connecting to LRT) whether they might be upgraded in frequency.

Route 56 is getting closer to frequent route status.

Frequency increases are incremental, based on productivity, crowding, available resources.

ETS is updating Transit Service Standards Procedures, will be published later this year or early next year.
 
Did the city finally work out the repair contract issues with Proterra and get the electrics back on the road? I keep seeing an electric bus on Route 523 in the morning.

There are about 5 15 or so operational Proterra's left. You're seeing them on the road more due to more short blocks coming on line for September. There is no contract to repair - Proterra is bankrupt.
