Does anyone know when this bike lane was installed?

Walking by the site this week and something caught my attention. If you look closely at the road on the southside of the hole, you will see that the asphalt on the bike lane has shifted towards the hole by 2-3". The crack travels past the house that is located on the east side of the hole. The crack does not extend further than that. I was surprised that no one has noticed this.
I'm going to walk over and investigate and get photos this afternoon.

My friend and I walked by - didn't see anything concerning regarding the house next door.

Not an engineer… but I don’t think there’s any major concern for the roadway shifting. Lots of other sections not adjacent to The Pit have the same asphalt cracking.

Shoring timber is starting to deteriorate pretty badly in some spots, however. Lots of broken planks.

That last picture has the crack down the middle of the bike lane. It’s subtle and looks like normal asphalt cracks. That is what I thought at first impression. However, if you walk the path from corner to past the house it stands out like a settlement along the full south side. The cracks do not go down the entire bike lane — if you go past the block. Think Birds Eye-view. The other sides do not have that from what I recall. It caught my eye and thought it was interesting. Similar to a settlement.

I’m sure the Developer has an engineer monitoring the hole. So I could be wrong.

I wholeheartedly believed the Leafs would win this year—This was the year. So don’t bet on my judgement! I am still reeling from the loss. Perhaps I’m simply becoming a Grumpy old man keeping an eye on bike paths and looking for reasons to bark! Lord help me!

I need a cocktail!

I don't think that crack is being caused by the pit. It's a fair distance from the pit edge. The sidewalk between the bike and pit should be cracked and sloping inwards (and its not) if that pit was causing any problems.

Chat GPT says it normally starts a few meters back from the edge and is a progressive failure.

I didn’t go 4 meters back on the west road. I simply noticed it on the south of the hole.

🤷‍♂️

For what it's worth the cracks are evident in at least the 2023 Google Street view imagery

Open Sky Developments broke ground on the project in 2021, but construction stalled, leaving the gaping hole in the heart of the city’s most densely populated neighbourhood.

The Vancouver-based property developer told CTV News Edmonton it still intends to build the tower but is waiting for the right circumstances to continue. The firm said the site was for sale “at one point” but “isn’t anymore.” ...

CTV News Edmonton spoke to surveyors at the Jameson site Monday, but they could not confirm if their presence means construction will resume soon.
