I would think the floor plan of the CN tower is pretty poor for a residential conversion. It has a huge concrete core and consequently relatively small square footage on each floor. I can't imagine the economics would work well.

Its a gorgeous building, but it seems to me it will be hard to find a use for it that will cover its costs.

It's quite shallow from core to exterior walls which means suites get a great deal more glazing per sf than the more modern rectangular towers with large floor plates. It's floor to floor height - at 14 feet if my memory is correct - also provides the ability for higher ceilings. I don't know how the numbers would pencil today but from a design perspective it would be a fabulous opportunity to create something quite iconic and special.

The units would be super cool, but wouldn't that make the cost per square foot extremely high? I definitely hope you are correct and I am wrong. 😁 I love the CN tower and would be stoked to see it brought back to glory.
 
I love your exuberance and blue sky thinking, but I cannot see this being positioned as anything high-end or captivating the 'Jaguar/Mercedes/Bentley crew'.
 
Had meetings in the Epcor tower today, and the new development looks good. Just need to fill all the empty parking lots around it. Seriously why is there so much parking around here? No wonder it’s filled with homeless. Can do way better here

I just think it's the kind of city you get when your growth has been based on personal vehicle transportation and growing out more than growing up.

People who come dt want to take their vehicles and so parking lots are needed to the detriment of vibrant, pedestrian-friendly streets and districts in our core.

Right, got that. My trouble is that no one is using these parking lots. Prime time workday and 3/4 of the lots to the north of Epcor tower are empty with maybe 1 car. I’m just surprised the city hasn’t closed these and called it a day. Of course it’s a nuanced issue but still. They built ice district and let a block away rot?

The parking lots north of Epcor are in the roughest parts of the city. The people who insist on bringing their cars downtown from Windermere and St Albert also won’t feel too comfortable leaving their cars within minutes of Hope Mission.
