Great game, I actually got the chance to watch it this time. Just started a new full time job in addition to my existing part time gig so I've missed a lot. Did not get to see game 1, but from what I hear, in addition to what I saw tonight, the Oilers are just the better team right now at even strength.
I'd like to see some improvement on the special teams, particularly the penalty kill, which has not had very good numbers at all. Though it's skewed by a couple really bad games (games 1 and 2 vs LA and last game vs. Dallas). A little less passivity, in addition to getting an extra save here or there, should do the trick, both of which they got tonight.
Stu is such an enigma, he's either lights out or looks lost in the crease. Such a confusing player, let's hope we see more of the former than the latter.
Walman is really showing his value, he was excellent tonight and without Ekholm he's been thrust into #2 D role and done really well in my opinion. The whole defense is playing great, but I thought I'd highlight Walman because of how well he played tonight. I knew he had good puck moving ability, but I was not aware of how solid he is in his own end until he became an Oiler. He's turned into a really good pickup.
I'd like to see more from Trent Frederic, he's got a bit of physicality to him that you wouldn't get with Jeff Skinner, but I think that Skinner's scoring ability alone should get him at least one more chance and to me Frederic is the odd man out right now.
One more highlight for Connor Brown who had a bit of a rocky start to his Oiler career, found a role on an excellent penalty killing unit in the 2024 playoffs, carried that into a very solid regular season this year and a great showing in the playoffs thus far.
