What an idiot... apparently tasered in Ford Hall post-event from multiple sources.

Skinner looked off, D-zone play was just ok, but it looked like we were practicing at key points where we literally gave up on the play/puck/man multiple times and had about 5 missed chances.

Massive 3-way trade just went down, details are still emerging but it looks like:

Mikko Rantanen is headed to Carolina with Martin Necas coming back the other way.

Taylor Hall is also being sent to the Canes.

More to come

I for one could not be happier to have Rantanen out of the West, and off a team the Oilers may end up having to play in the playoffs. Necas is a great player but idk, Rantanen is special.

Final details:

Hurricanes:
- Mikko Rantanen (50% Retained)
- Taylor Hall

Avalanche:
- Martin Necas
- Jack Drury
- 2025 2nd round pick
- 2026 4th round pick

Blackhawks:
- 2025 3rd round pick
- 50% retention on Mikko Rantanen

Awful asset management and move for Chicago, they lose a trade chip and get a big chunk of dead cap to only get a 3rd.

Colorado definitely is losing a bit here, Necas is great but Rantanen is a tier above him. If the rumours about Rantanen wanting 14 m$ on his next contract are true, they might have gotten the best they could out of a rough situation. They've gotten worse with this trade. Drury and the picks are just sort of a little bonus on the side I guess to make up the difference between Rantanen and Necas.

Carolina makes out like bandits, adding a bonafide superstar to an already star studded lineup, and at 50% retained too. They will need to resign him however. Plus they add a middle 6 scoring winger to pad out their depth even more. Insanely good asset management by them too, it wasn't too long ago Necas was thought to be on the outs and a trade target, now he's having an unprecedented (unlikely to be repeated) season and they've flipped him for one of the best wingers in the game. Tidy job by Eric Tulsky.

The Oilers are in 4th place after tonight's games

Captain Obvious here, but watch McD have a huge game. I'm calling it 8-1 Oil tonight. Btw, if anyone has an opportunity to watch the game tonight on NBC King (Seattle) - I suggest you do it...they have boatloads of respect for the Oil.

What is happening with Jeff Skinner!

He just had one of his best games in a while, scored a goal and still just got 10 minutes of ice time, 2nd least on the team.

He's been great since the first initial set of scratches and considering how little he's played he's been very good throughout most of the season. He was even blocking shots and getting in physically on the forecheck in his last couple games.

I've been a big fan of Knoblauch and the coaching staff of the Oilers and I think they generally make good moves, but they've completely mismanaged this player. The only knocks on his game are his lack of physical play and not being good defensively. He's clearly worked on it and its showed on the ice in the last few games and he's still not getting any opportunity and getting scratched.

A player like Skinner is a pure sniper, and can easily score 30 goals if given the opportunity. He's not being used correctly and being asked to do things he's never done in his career before. The Oilers struggle with finishing, which is why you went out and got the guy and now you've got him either buried on the 4th line playing 10 minutes or less a night or in the press box.

I don't know what more the guy can do.

He's scratched again tonight after one of his better games of the season so far, I don't get it, it doesn't make sense.

Either trade him, or use him properly.

^ Something major would have to sproing -- I would hate to see someone like Bouchard traded to make cap room space available for any player in today's NHL If Rantanen and his agent are reasonable in their salary request with the understanding that he might like to sport a Stanley Cup ring, well who knows?

It's reported Rantanen might want up to $14m. Can we even entertain that?

Bouchard is likely getting a raise in the $9M-$10M ballpark while McDavid will be making $15M. That's on top of Draisaitl's $14M and Nurse's $9M. And who knows how much Stu's contract will be? I'd say the chances of Rantanen signing with the Oilers for $14M is next to nil.
