Are there any remaining means for people to give input to steer this, or is it basically that everything is up to the developers' discretion now?
This looks to be going to EDC on March 3rd. That may be the last chance to get them to up their game. Maybe if enough of us emailed EDC to express our dissatisfaction with the design it may hold some sway with developer/architect and EDC members?
Their email is edmontondesigncommittee@edmonton.ca.
I think I will send EDC a quick note.

Everyone on here claiming expertise has indicated that construction costs are too high/rents too low. So what does one really expect in this market. McEwan isn't a prestigious private post sec school attracting wealthy international students who want fancy flats. In this environment in Edmonton, at least some out of towners are willing to invest in downtown, so that is a plus.

Sure, but it wouldn't take much to tweak the design from Nisku Chic to downtown worthy. I, at least, am not asking for the glass high-rise of the original renderings. I just want something that doesn't look like stacked shipping containers... actually, scratch that. I saw some pretty damn handsome student housing built from shipping containers in Utrecht.

The design looks fairly basic. Still, if construction starts mid-year or next year, it should add more people and energy to the downtown core.
This is a sad take.

We shouldn't just build shit to bring more people downtown. This building in 10 years is going to ghettoize downtown rather then improve it.

What are we saying? I want to send something too, I just think it can be more impactful if we are aligned
I basically said that this is not an acceptable level of design for a central location like this and recommended larger windows and better materials. I may have added something about not accepting crap, although I phrased it a bit nicer.

^ I was reading your description of your sent note with wrapt attention until your "added something" comment when I could not hold in an uncontrollable burst of laughter... humor truly is the best medicine (just glad I had put my coffee down several moments prior to reading else I would have had to clean my computer screen again)!

This is coming to EDC on March 3.
