YEG has hired from within making Myron Keehn it's new CEO. Myron's current role is focused on air service development, business development, & ESG.

Good or bad depending on how you look at it this is likely a hire that ensures a lot of continuity with the direction YEG is currently headed. Looking forward to hearing from Myron on his plans and how the backfill his role.

You mean how Myron delivers the Boards vision and priorities. Wrt to air service / route development which he has been responsible it has been an utter failure. If he does not accomplish getting some new routes in the next 90 days - YEG and Edmonton are going no where other than maybe cargo growth.
 
September numbers are out. Quite a ways to go for the numbers to get back to pre pandemic.

Monthly passenger stats September 2022​

Terminal​

  • Terminal Traffic: 503,352 passengers ( 3,857,598 Year-to-date)
  • Domestic 460,880 passengers (3,427,002 Year-to-date)
  • Transborder 31,625 passengers (267,961 year-to-date)
  • International 10,847 passengers (162,635 year-to-date)

Here are the factors in order of importance depressing our numbers imo:
  • Business travel down and people have found a way to do more work without it
  • Less connections happening at YEG particularly with Westjet. This takes a big chunk out of numbers pretty quickly
  • Individuals concerns/reluctance to travel as COVID still circulates some aren't ready for plane travel
  • Inflation and finances affecting discretionary travel

Next few weeks will be a happy time around the airport as there are a few flights (re)starting:

  • October 30th - Nanaimo - Westjet
  • October 31st - Vancouver - Lynx
  • November 1st - Los Angeles (LAX) - Flair
  • November 2nd - Puerto Vallarta - Flair
  • November 6th - Cancun - Air Canada

It’s sad when the first sentence uses it information from 2014. It should read **The Edmonton Metro Region population is expected to nearly double from approximately 1.42 million people in 2022 to approximately 2.5 million people in 2044**

EIA is so fricken lazy it’s pathetic.

The above quote is a bit confusing touting the new Condor flight in one moment and then mentioning more euro connections being a priority in the next. I would prefer to see KLMs flight be strong and achieve daily status and Condor get a season in before any more routes to Europe.

A daily flight to London Heathrow or Gatwick is more important than anything else with the possible exception of Frankfurt.

If KLM is threatening to pull the plug on YEG then Condor could pick up the slack.

How does KLM survive with its two Alberta routes? Westjet is again posting $500 return flights to Amsterdam for first three months of 2023. Of course from here there is one stop in YYC. But KLM rates are not comparable.

KLM is all about the connections beyond Amsterdam.
