Wine country, great lakes, many like to avoid the GTA/Pearson like the plague, even a good access point for the US if renting and driving around a bit.

I feel there are a lot of people who live south of the GTA in Ontario who would like to avoid it, Pearson, all the related congestion and traffic if possible.

Should be able to convince 132 people out of those 10 million to fly to or from Edmonton lol

The flights would need to be ridiculously cheap (aka unsustainable for any airline) to convince anybody east/north of Mississauga to even consider using Hamilton’s airport over Pearson, especially when you have to literally drive by Pearson to get there.

Ok, including the whole Golden Horseshoe population was a bit misleading on my part, but my point was there’s still huge numbers of people south of Mississauga. Niagara, st Catherine’s, London, Kitchener, maybe a bit of a stretch to include Windsor… And porter isn’t flying huge planes so hopefully they SHOULD be able to make it work. Especially with strong net interprovincial migration to Alberta atm. Should add at least a few family visits going either way.

Another completely packed 787

I'm in Europe now and taking a rest after a full day of biking in Switzerland (Interlaken). Did some biking throughout the Netherlands and flew KLM direct. I didn't notice any empty seats on my flight April 2.

BONUS PICS that no one may care about but if you care to indulge me.

On the way to Lauterbrunnen earlier today.

And classic Netherlands on the way to Rotterdam after a day in Delft earlier in the trip.

I expect there will be a lot of Canadians traveling to Europe this year. It would be nice in response to this if there were more few more flights added from here, rather than making many of us go through the already very busy hubs.

The best bet right now would probably be WS adding YEG-KEF. Not to be pessimistic but I can't see any other airline adding anything else in the near future.

“Canada’s other airline - sure, sure. More like YYC’s other airline. Still flummoxed by WJ’s business plan. This isn’t Hartsfield and Delta with “all of their eggs in 1 basket/airport. This is not gonna end well with them. No wonder Alexi is always bitching about airlines expenses in Canada. That’s fine, let him be the world’s biggest fLamers supporter but optics is everything.

This has got to be rage bait at this point 😂

You're telling me that the CEO of a Calgary based airline is supporting Calgary's hockey team? Shocker. Even more shocking that you're seemingly offended by this.

I can understand disliking their business strategy but this is just a super strange post.

Yes, companies tend to focus on and support things more where their head offices are located, which is something Edmonton's municipal government has never quite got about the importance of having them.

Although there also seem to be a few Jets fans that have somehow infiltrated into their sanctum.

I say this a lot but where would YEG be without Westjet? I think they are a pretty important partner to YEG and I hope they continue to see success. I hope Westjet gets a nice upgrade to their north terminal check-in space and maybe one day down the line if they consider a decent expansion to their widebody fleet we could even see a flight to Europe with them. They seem more committed to our actual air service development than our actual home carrier Flair.

Without Westjet, probably Flair would have arrived sooner and had a much greater presence. Interestingly, Westjet seems to have become more interested in Edmonton ever since Flair arrived.

Rage bait? Is that a term? I'm 54 yrs old and don't have Tiktok - must be a Gen Z thing? Bottom line - Alexi doesn't know a puck from a Cow pie - and they are owned by Onex in TO - who complain about losing money all the time and want to keep increasing their baggage fees - so yeah - a $2M box in the Saddledump is certainly sending mixed messages....
