I wonder if Katz Group has been watching what's happening across the street at Station Lands and wants to get in on the party sooner rather than later. It would be great for DT if a little competition started pushing developers into moving on some of proposals they've been sitting on.

The report is live! The list of proposed projects for the CRL is extensive, and even includes upgrading LRT entrances. According to this attachment, the first three residential buildings in phase 2 are expected to be complete, and the rest will be complete by 2038 - the build out plans and staging are market dependent.

As for the event centre:

If City Council does succeed in extending the CRL then maybe it can be used for that Warehouse Park fountain or retaining the park north of the Hotel Mac.

This is probably the best set of announcements and projects I've seen for downtown in a long while. We're getting confirmation of construction dates for the Ice District Village, confirmation of event park details which would bring us a ton more foot traffic, CRL catalyst projects which include housing incentives and transit entrances renovations (please as a transit user we need this so bad) and the pedestrian bridge on 100 St.

Imagine what else we could do if we got the same level of investment as Calgary from the provincial government.

All in all, this is pretty good news. Finally, something nice to celebrate for once. I'd imagine all this funding will lead some developers to take an interest or start some projects because that's a lot of money being thrown at downtown.

This is a substantially "better" rendering for the new "event center." - gosh - it sounds like we're in YYC talking about their building...lol. Looks like it'll match with Rogers quite nicely - the pedway is a nice touch as well.

The rendering in this Proposal does not tell all but it does hint at a few things partnered with the descriptions:
* The project budget is high enough to attract world class architects leading to a potential outstanding design
* The possibility of having a collapsible/removable roof has appeared in all three variations for the outdoor space -- this helps in terms of Edmonton's weather unpredictability
* The indoor space is going to hit the sweet spot for performance art including musical groups -- this is key to the success of this venue -- some of the very best talent in the world is up-and-coming and draws crowds of under 3,000 and there is a trend, too, for A-listed main-stream acts to take on smaller venues for more intimate performances -- both of these suggest that the effort will be made to make this an exceptional event space.
* It appears that Daryl Katz has sold the land (or will sell the land) back to the City as part of this endeavor leaving Mr. Katz with lots of development options going forward (this guy is one shrewd businessman who purposefully remains apolitical)
* Keeping things tight in terms of adjacent development to the fan park, I project that the first mixed use residential developments will occur on land just north of 105th Avenue. What might that look like? I expect the Mac Lofts to be developed as part of a double structure development across the street (westward) with a compatible mid-rise (7-storey) structure facing the Mac Lofts and with a structural upgrade to Mac Lofts to allow 3 more stories added there perhaps with an over-the-street, more-than-a-pedway connecting the two buildings and high-end purpose-built ground floor retail/hospitality (partially and selectively removing sections of the first floor of Mac Lofts to create an interesting street-facing space). The adjoining tower (west along 105 Ave.) would be a 27+ storey building. This first development would set the tone for the remaining lands.

I am almost certain that the renderings are place-holders and that the one that will spring forward from this announcement will far surpass what we have seen so far.

I'm guessing with these announcements, maybe we could see movement on the Connect Centre tower and the Stationlands one to cascade on from this announcement? Seems like a lot more people would want to get in on this development boom downtown when all this goes ahead.
