This seems like a move that people will regret someday.
I think that time is now. We gave Katz a monopoly, which alone has caused massive price inflation at Rogers. Now we're hearing that monopoly is causing problems with a potential PWHL expansion. Combine that with the rapid rise in attendance of Stingers games and the also-bullshit Katz amphitheater to fill a need for a mid-size concert venue, it's likely we're at or nearing the point Edmonton could sustain another arena. Instead we're paying tens of millions to tear it down and secure Katz' large-event entertainment monopoly for decades at our expense.

I still defend the City's original CRL to build Rogers downtown as it was a desperately-needed development catalyst, but I think history will show us the City should not have capitulated in the broader negotiations and Edmonton is worse off for it.
