Edmonton seems to be falling behind in terms of available hotel rooms. In the last couple of years we have lost the Union Bank Inn, Super 8 Old Strathcona, Coliseum Inn, Eastglen Inn, Klondike Inn, Glenora B&B, etc. I know some on the list aren't brands but they do fill a niche. Other than the JW Marriott, I can't think of another hotel opening in Edmonton the last few years.
Places I would like added capacity. Downtown including connected to the Convention Centre, 124 St, University, Strathcona, Millwoods. Why is adding capacity important. We are a growing city but our accommodation sector has not kept up. We need rooms for concerts, conferences, sports, family visits, tourism, etc. If we don't fulfill the need, some of those start going to other cities instead.
Anyone know of any hotel projects in the planning stages in Edmonton?
I've heard for years how Alt and Germain have been sniffing around but nothing has come to fruition.

Maybe now is the time???

Plus Coast downtown is now closed until Fall 2026 for a fairly major overhaul.

The last centrally located hotel project I can recall is the Peak tower conversion before they changed their minds to go residential instead. U of A area specifically still seems like an area that could really benefit from an additional hotel... the land the Tims/Wendys is on is prime for one.

JW Marriot was over 5 years ago now I think and before that not much major downtown for decades.

I think there is a growing demand for more hotel space in Edmonton -- the temperature-takers seem to be waiting to see what is the next major urban thrust in Edmonton proper.

Things getting set up for event in The Quarters Sat/Sun. Some rehersal for Canadian Lion Dance championships. Looks like will be a good time.
