I like that City Market and we used to go there usually once a week to grab some quick items but the bums and creeps hanging around 103 just makes it so unpleasant to visit that we’ve opted to just walk all the way to Safeway in Unity Sq.

I’m almost surprised Katz Group et al haven’t bought the Crash Hotel building just to shut it and the liquor store down. Those two drive so much of the disorder on their doorstop.
Yes, if someone bought that hotel and fixed it up that could improve things around this area a lot. I am surprised it hasn't happened yet.

It's fairly busy during office hours I'd say - probably the main spot my co-workers grab lunch from. But, it's definitely not as busy afterhours. We need more residential units online as that's the biggest issue I think - residential customer base.
Unfortunately the problems with downtown are both that there is not a lot of people living nearby and those that do probably do not venture out to get groceries too late because of such problems here and elsewhere.

Can confirm. No way in hell am I walking up the hill to be accosted by screaming tweakers so I can pick up overpriced milk. Wish we had a No Frills instead, TBH, although it'd be facing the exact same issues. I stopped going to a couple Chinatown grocery stores because of the piles of druggies sitting around the parking lot. No thanks.

This happened a few years ago but one morning we had a couple of EPS officers who came to our building in response to a domestic call that had been called in the night before. The victim could have been killed about a dozen times by the time they showed up. Don't know what happened and the renters moved out, but come on! 12 hours for a domestic call???

Most of my grocery shopping takes place at Save-On Foods on Jasper/109 St and at CityMarket in the Brewery District. I'll shop at CityMarket in ICE District once in a while.

Not my experience and I'm there most everyday. Much busier than a year ago.

I would be more concerned about the Safeway on west Jasper Ave closing before this does.
Oof, I hope not. I'm there at least once every couple of weeks and while it's never packed, there are enough people that I imagined it to be fairly successful.

That Safeway is deceitfully busy. It's never packed, but it's got very consistent movement, or at least did up until last February, and I can't imagine it got any worse. With the people moving into Mercury and Cobalt, I can't imagine it getting worse at all.
