Sorry…..friendly reminder to myself NOT to post after the Oil lose….also - I despise YEG being compared to the Peg…..

Why? There are A LOT of commonalities and i'd argue that their Downtown and area is quite similar overall. The Exchange District blows Edmonton out of the water and is an incredible place to explore, we dont have anything like that.

Love it or hate it, The Forks is a huge draw and elements are quite cool/fun, while we let our potential Forks be mothballed.

While we have a higher population and growth potential, The Peg is quite comparable in many ways and i'd argue that it's near identical for many who would compare it and that's not a bad thing.

Just as we probably needed more rental in Ice District in addition to the upscale condos to add people and vibrancy in the area, we also do not need really need only more upscale restaurants, coffee shops or bars but a wider range of useful goods and services to make it more attractive for people who live or may want to live downtown. You shouldn't have to drive to Unity Square to get a light bulb.

I don't have a problem with the Winnipeg example posted here, it actually looks quite nice and it is probably more realistic than all the endless comparisons made to Vancouver or Toronto.

Like it or not, similar to Winnipeg, we are a city that also has negative stereotypes we struggle to overcome. Edmonton is much bigger and much better off over all, although Winnipeg despite its much smaller size is probably as much of a financial and business center or more and has a lot of great historic character buildings downtown.

Maybe because of their isolation, they have more sense of community, purpose and vision so yes they have made the Forks while our old power plant has languished for a very long time because our civic leaders don't have much vision.

Rossdale could be a combined Forks/Granville with a transit stop right in the middle (gondola). We have/had people on council with that kind of vision but citizens and our provincial government can't get out of the way.

As do I despise the comparison, but wow over time YEG and the Peg seem to be becoming more like each other. And not always in a very flattering way.

But no, that's disappointing. While I've only gone a couple times, I quite enjoyed it overall, and the concept is needed in Ice District, as it at least has some entertainment options.
Went for a work event once where we had the whole space rented out. Tried to activate the bowling and they wanted us to pay an extra 90$ per lane. Never went back

From an optimistic perspective, maybe it gives the Canadian Brewhouse a chance to focus on just doing one thing instead of having to manage that whole complex and several concepts. I found there wasn't a ton of differentiation between their venues there and was confused on where I needed to go.

Would a modern movie theatre have worked in retrospect? Better off not having it? Other?
