Looks like we have a homelessness problem that's resulted in a homelessness industry complex. One wonders how much all these executive directors of these agencies make and if they really want to be out of a job (aka to solve homelessness)

Most of them are incredibly underpaid, overworked and compassionate individuals who would give anything to be unemployed. Go volunteer with any of them jist for a day. You are barking up the wrong tree.

Went to school with one of the executive directors. Nicest guy you could know. I'm not shocked he is where is today. He'd give you the shirt, pants and socks off his body if he could.

Homeless industry complex? Perhaps, but all of these organizations arose to fill gaps in our society unfortunately which have gotten bigger and bigger over time. Some like our food bank actually initially believed they would only be around temporarily until governments noticed these gaps and responded.

However, our governments have not, because well partly because homeless people and those in extreme poverty don't vote so they can get away with it. If the provincial government made some changes they could put the food bank out of business tomorrow. Of course they prefer to continue to off load the cost of this instead to others.

I wonder how much attitudes have changed among some people. Ship a problem elsewhere. If we close drug treatment centres there will be no drugs.
