Yup, I walk to work between 7:15-830am on a daily basis and see maybe 10 people.

Post-work rush hour is busy, but mornings are deeeeaaaadddd.
I'm not generally walking around that time so I don't know for sure, but when I have it has been fairly quiet, not surprising. A lot of people who work downtown here drive or otherwise commute and unlike Vancouver we do not have a lot of people who don't work downtown but prefer to live downtown. If you think the congestion on our bridges and closures are bad, try Vancouver where most routes downtown require going across one or more bridges.

Yup, I used to bike to Commerce Place for work and anytime up to around 8:15am, I would see maybe one other person in the bike lane, not counting folks pushing shopping carts. It was leagues easier than driving.

Unfortunately that option doesn't exist in West Edmonton, since every neighbourhood is separated by a one-way stroad with minimal crosswalks.

"Lawns and decorative planting are a colonial macro-aggression", said the City, "so we're going to stop spending money on such. However, we'll keep the money anyway."

A lot of cities give volunteers the plants, soil and supplies to do the planting themselves. I bet in dense areas like Ezio, Dick Mather and Alex Decoteau that you could get area residents to do the planting.
Dick Mather park would be great for 2026's Partners in Parks program.

^DECL already includes the community garden in this program, but is considering including more of Alex D in it to help with weeding, mulching etc. Would be great to have a group of residents do the same for the flowers in Dick Mather.
