Remedy Jasper Avenue has announced it is closing permanently May 18.

That entire block will now be empty.

As for the work from home debate, honestly it’s time for governments to bring their people back downtown. I get the freedom aspect, etc, but it’s killing the soul of our downtown to have a major employer leave their spaces empty. Pre COVID this was just a pipe dream. Workers don’t like it? Tough, unemployment is high right now. Set the policy, set expectations and deal with it.

For that matter pressure should be out on stantec to for the same reason, although they are not a very good corporate citizen so I have low hopes there.

Stantec not a good corporate citizen? Huh? Explain, for they support an absolute TON of things around the city, donate a lot to charities and their workers are quite involved in the community.

People are actually back downtown in increasing numbers, it is retail businesses that are not. The lack of people was a year or two ago problem that is being fixed, we need to focus more now on the remaining problems.

Can we get a thread dedicated to Seoul Fried Chicken's cilantro & lime chicken?
I hate to sound like a cranky oldster, but each time we've tried to go in to order, the music has been blaring so loud we'd promptly walk out, which makes me sad cause I do like their chicken and have eaten it from their off Whyte location.

They’ve also received A LOT of criticism for employment practices, pay, and management. That likely drove some decline, as well as numerous other, arguably better options close by opening (bar oro, objects, fawkes, ayco)
I strongly agree. Remedy simply isn't competitive with a lot of other options now. I used to frequent this chain often (and come to think of it, their brand repositioning as a chain instead of an interesting independent is notable), and now it has been well over a year. The loss of an evening presence is unfortunate, but supply and demand is what it is.

Fawkes is doing very well I think.

I'm surprised the Remedy at 109st is still open. Not a great vibe.

Fawkes is doing very well - full stop.
The donuts are delicious, the cappuccino hits the spot, the staff are awesome, and the interior is quite comfortable. I'll keep coming back again and again.

I don’t see the evidence of that, but I could be wrong, but I can’t recall the last time I’ve seen their name in a major way in any of the significant campaigns and events around the region. I don’t see much of their exec team involved either and I know they’ve actively avoided discussions about getting involved in some things.

They give lip service to this being their head office, with back to back cfo’s not living here,

They have not brought their people back downtown. In Calgary there was lots of pressure to bring people back, and it has worked. We are busier downtown but have more to do and they could be part of that and should be.

Anyways I don’t want to sidetrack the downtown stuff with this. I think my position is they could do more.

Can someone tell me why BP's has a giant raised patio area ripe for a party tent, patio etc. for the playoffs and has zip, zero, nothing? Landlord issue? Seems like a slam dunk.
