It seems that the city just cancels on this projects if they remove a lane of traffic, but the laws is that they can seek provincial approvals for it. Has the city ever asked the province for approval for a project that removes a lane of traffic, I am thinking about this project and the one on Parkside Dr. If the province rejects the city at least they would have to explain why

Bill 60 outright bans cities from converting motor vehicle lanes to bike lanes (or any other prescribed purpose). However, the City had the ability to install them at the time Eglinton was being resurfaced last fall since Bills 212/60 exempted projects underway, but they chose not to.

For some reason they’ve completed construction on Scott and The Esplanade, and repainted the lanes in a way that encourages drivers to drive east down the bike lane. It’s causing major confusion at Yonge and The Esplanade.

As a suburbanite, I have to apologize to the people of Toronto for what has been happening to the city, especially in regards to its cycling network, and the speed camera thing too. It is really embarrassing to be a part of this attack on cyclists and pedestrians.

I always figured that was a good place to start. Had we done this proactively in the 2010s we’d be ahead of the game.
