I won’t lie, my interactions with those engaged in leading these projects do not give me a ton of confidence. Feels like we got the traffic cops of the force reassigned to this project.

Do you think the right wing parties' sudden obsession with cutting bike lanes is connected to big tech's desires to fill the roads with automated vehicles? See Not Just Bikes for more details.

I hope no one on the 70km/h limit Manning Drive cared last night that I took up a whole road lane because the Fort Road/Manning Drive SUP they promised would be built in 2024 was only partially completed up to Bartle & GIbson, and the slip lane was full of slush and crap.

The Valley Line LRT snow removal company believes that its ok to park in the bike lane to shovel the entire station...

I wonder if it's the same truck that beeped at me for grazing the mirror trying to get around it. I wonder if they would find it acceptable for bike to park in the car lane?

The city appears to have put ice melt/sand on all the hard-packed snow on the MUPs near South Campus station over the last few days.... and just left it. Now it's a slushy and rutty mess. Ffs it's not like a road where you can just sand and leave it, now it's just a nightmare for anybody trying to wheel or bike.

Winter trail maintenance has been a tad frustrating this season, commuting from the SW into the central city.

Yup definitely taken a step back this year - The clearing of the 106th st. bike lane through Allendale has been mediocre: icy, rutty, and full of snow. It's probably partly to due with design but I don't remember it being so bad the last few years

That's one of the cons of one-way bike lanes - in winter the lanes narrow up even more with snow pushed over that melts and freezes. At least with two-way lanes, it's wider and tends to be easier to navigate even though those lanes narrow as well. But it's more space to work with.

Definitely noticing more people winter cycling this year despite some of the challenges.

76 Ave WB around the fire station has been particularly bad to the point that it's been unrideable on some days. I really hope that this single lane design is discouraged going forward. Besides the clearing issues, the curves, hard curbs and narrowness sometimes make it like an obstacle course in the summer/spring. Plus, passing can be really difficult.

The new MUP from Malmo to South Campus has not been good either, the snow pack on the road/path near the school is now so high that you can't even tell it's a trail. Yesterday it was covered in snow drifts so deep that they're impossible to traverse (hello, sidewalk riding on the other side of the street).

This is the MUP at 117th St and about 42 Ave. Miniplow cleaned the MUP fine this morning but they never plow the road portion. No bus route so it's never plowed. It's either smush or later gets into icy smooth layers. I wish COE would just clean that too. Equipment is crossing anyways.

311 it and email you councillor maybe? See if there’s a reason crossings aren’t cleared.

I’m assuming it’s for concern of “bumps”. Which arguably is great traffic calming for the crossing 🙂🙂

The Malmo MUP has looked like this since at least Tuesday. Some of the drifts are up to 1.5-2ft tall... still nothing done.

And a neighborhood connector to a bus stop (Sweet Grass to 111 St near 34 Ave, SW corner). Still nothing done, completely inaccessible. Difficult to even walk, impossible to roll/bike.

There were bad drifts to the NW, I opted to only partially ride Wednesday and yesterday to avoid them. Rode on Hermitage Rd this morning, the frozen slush windrows at the bus stops were the biggest hazards. I was happy seeing at least 10 other bike tire tracks on Hermitage.

It's the matter of fact that our city is so spread out combined with the extreme and constant winter weather means we're never going to see Amsterdam levels of winter bike path maintenance. But the winter priority loop needs to be expanded to cover more central core loop. 106 St south to 63 Ave, 104 St/LRT north to NAIT, LRT paths, 102 Ave to 140 St, all need to be cleared within 24 hours.

I think Parks staff maintain a lot of the river valley SUPs and I noticed those get cleared within 24 hours.

The new ped bridge beside the Rainbow Valley bridge has the first steel beam up as of this week. And the new ped bridge across Whitemud Drive just east of the Terwilligar off-ramp has both end piers substantially done and the contractors are now working on the centre pier. Hopefully both this bridges will be complete this summer. That would make life so much easier for cyclists from the SW
