Great video, although the commentary is related to the LRT's construction impact:
Some highlights (so you don't need to listen to the commentary):

I'm not sure just live with it is that mature of a response either. Something less rigid and more thoughtful would probably be appreciated by those that are nearby and have to endure years of this.

Of course we want to accommodate communities with minimizing construction activities, but I also think that something that will benefit people in the long-term is also important.

These people who complain about the LRT construction should grow up. LRT construction is a short-term problem, and it will save a lot of traffic woes once complete.
While I agree, try driving that stretch of 111st street (which has been fucked since August 2022 because of the pre construction tunnelling work) at rush hour. Hell, even drive it at 11pm at night and it’s still a mess. At a certain point people get tired of it. At the end of the day, people pay taxes and expect to get services out of it, and they do. However, people get tired, and rightly frustrated when this construction adds 20, sometimes even 30 minutes to their commutes. As someone who drives 111st daily it has become unbearable. Not to mention the hellish signal timing and the unexplainable 40km limit the LRT slows down to after 41st ave (for no reason, been like this for months), which makes everything even worse. I’m for transit, and for the LRT expansion but we can’t forget about the people who drive because we can’t take the train to work. It’s about equality, not saying “fuck you” to people who drive a car. Looks to still be at least another 2 months of work on that stretch of 111th, plus all of next year. Yahoo.

Arguably, making driving worse is the only way to get close to “equality” since our transit and active infrastructure is so crap. Mostly saying that tongue in cheek, we shouldn’t try to make anything worse haha.

But I do think people who only drive are blind to how good they have it compared to any other major city in Canada. And especially compared to transit or biking in Edmonton, which regularly see COMPLETE closures, not just detours and slowdowns. Imagine 23rd to 34ave of 111st just being completely removed. That’s biking in our city. Imagine sitting in your car for 20 minutes not moving and not knowing why. That’s waiting for buses off schedule.

Disrupting driving a little to ensure we can improve more efficient modes of transportation seems very fair. Appealing to “equality” seems out of touch imho.

With Edmonton expanding south of the Henday,, this LRT is very much needed. It’s true that people will drive to work or other locations because of varying needs. We still need roads for moving goods and services.

I think, though, that LRT accommodates a lot of passenger traffic. The fact that LRT is extended to Ellerslie Road means less traffic on the 111 Street overpass, adding to the traffic on the way to University or Downtown.

I don’t think most people can fathom what all the people on the LRT driving would feel like in terms of congestion. It helps us so much and its critical to 114st, jasper ave, 111st, and many others not being way worse.
