Well they did move the Qatar World Cup to December. And they will do the same when Saudi Arabia hosts.
Maybe they should have done the same for 2026 (I realize that won't happen).
I was at a Canada/USA World Cup qualifying match outdoors in Hamilton in January 2022.
BMO Field hosted MLS Cup games in December in 2016 and 2017. And Concacaf Champions League matches in late February in 2018 and 2019.

Got a chuckle out of this. Los Angeles FC just signed South Korean player Son Heung Min, and an LA councilwoman welcomed him by saying: "And no pressure, but when a World Cup comes, we're expecting a win here in Los Angeles for the USA, aren't we? And so we are here to support you to get that done."

Pretty typical for the average American to have low awareness of the dynamics of international soccer (football). Also typical of the USA being the centre of the universe mindset. Some of these Yanks are going to be in for a rude awakening when they get eliminated as usual fairly early in the WC tournament.

This comment seems like good bait but I really don't think it's that big of a deal. I know it's en vogue to dunk on Americans but i'd rather they say something cringe like this than something invasive or potentially racist like how media in the rest of the world operate. Incredibly benign IMO and strikes more as Canadian smugness in its reaction than anything else.

Just having some fun with that ribbing. And Americans love to belittle Canadians at sports even with the contributions that our athletes have among their major professional leagues. Even at hockey despite Canadian (and European) players having tremendous influence towards championship winning teams. Just to nitpick the glory because you know U-S-A, U-S-A. So yeah, I enjoy the schadenfreude especially when the USMNT crash out.
