The organizers are lucky that there are already large ex-pat communities in the U.S. that would attend games or the travel issues could've been insurmountable. Good chance that international fans would choose to avoid the hassle and stay home.

Incredible prospect for Toronto that we might not be the most dysfunctional host city
We just need to vote federally to ensure we're not also deporting anyone we don't like by this time next year.

It was true before but definitely more true now that international fans would likely prefer to travel to Canada than the US. Depending on how the groups shake out, anyway. There are some current indicators showing that a recession is either forthcoming or is already occurring in the US (decline in activity in Las Vegas as being the easiest indicator), so it's possible WC26 in the US may have issues selling seats. We'll have to see! I know tickets in Toronto are going to be impossible, again depending on the teams.

2026 World Cup: FIFA considers moving games from USA to Canada amid immigration policies

From https://africasoccer.com/2026-world-cup-fifa-considering-moving-games-from-usa-to-canada/
FIFA is reportedly considering relocating some of the 2026 World Cup matches from the United States to Canada amid rising concerns over US immigration policies.

Recent visa restrictions have sparked backlash from fans and human rights organizations, with reports indicating that entire delegations—including supporters, media personnel, and staff—are facing significant hurdles securing entry into the US.

Currently, travelers from up to 43 countries are banned from entering the United States. This includes nations qualified for the World Cup, such as Iran, whose fans may be entirely absent from stadiums, leaving players without their vocal support.

These developments have raised serious questions about FIFA’s commitment to its own core principles, particularly “access and non-discrimination,” as well as its broader pledges to uphold human rights and inclusion.

While the United States remains a financially powerful host, Canada emerges as a compelling alternative, offering logistical efficiency, political neutrality, and greater stability.

FIFA now faces the challenge of aligning its actions with its stated values, ensuring the protection and promotion of anti-discrimination, diversity, accessibility, inclusion, and human rights, while avoiding any conflicts of interest.

I would include Mexico and Panama. Maybe even Cuba.

There's not a single quote in there from even a source at FIFA of this happening.
Look how close Infantino and Trump were at the recent Club World Cup event - no games will be moved from the US.

The recent Club World Cup in the States showed that the biggest threat to next summer's WC is the extreme heat and it's effect on the players. The heat and humidity were the topic of conversation after almost every single game with both coaches and players ringing alarm bells about the playing conditions. FIFA's determination to play their matches in the early/mid-afternoon North American summer heat to align with European primetime television viewing period is turning into quite the health hazard.

They should've prioritized holding more games in cities with dome stadiums (Vegas, Minneapolis) to mitigate the effects of the heat.

Is the U.S. too hot to handle the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup?

NEW YORK -- With less than a year to go until the U.S. co-hosts the tournament with Mexico and Canada, the heat and humidity experienced by teams at the Club World Cup has set alarm bells ringing within the game that it might just be a case of wrong place and wrong time for a summer tournament in North America.

But they were fine playing games in a country where homosexuality is illegal.

Homosexuality in Qatar is illegal and punishable by up to three years in prison. A report from Human Rights Watch, published last month, documented cases as recently as September of Qatari security forces arbitrarily arresting LGBT people and subjecting them to “ill-treatment in detention.”

It's called summer. Soccer is played outdoors in some of the hottest countries on earth.

Maybe they should have done the same for 2026 (I realize that won't happen)
If they were to move the WC in the US (and Canada) to November/December then they may as well wipe out the northern 50% of the host sites and relocate them to southern states/Mexico, including where the final is slated to be played.

Or perhaps this could be the ‘Domed Stadium WC’……and this would not actually be ground breaking. There are certainly enough domed stadiums in Canada and the Northern States to make that happen. (I mean who really cares about field size, field conditions, the players health…..they come, they go, there will be new stars next WC)

Maybe a happy medium, like hosting in September?

We have one in Canada that we could conceivably use.

And no, I don't think Olympique can be brought up to snuff any time soon.

Maybe the semi-finals and final WC games should be in either Canada and/or Mexico. Especially, if the finalist countries are "banned" by Donald Trump.
