I want my car to rumble on pavers as much as possible when I drive past the almost finished arena project next spring!

In all seriousness, you're right, pavers are not worth it on 14th. I do stand by my point about 14th's importance will increase with "Calgary Live" though. I'm also curious how they direct people from Victoria Park Station to the arena, I think the best way to get to the arena will be via the 13th Ave portal between the BMO and Cowboys Casino. That will have people crossing Stampede Trail, which I think, as you point out, will be a pedestrian street.
albeit it was a schematic, I bet the N/NE portion of "calgary live" facing 14th will be a parking structure. Both SP and Stampede will need it, and there's no other logical place for it. Steer the commercial pieces towards the corner of Stampede Trail

I'd love for the corner of 14th and Stampede Trail with Calgary Live to have a plaza to match the arena. Stampede Trail up to Flores Ladue Parade should be pedestrian only during big events. Car traffic could be directed to 5A and behind Calgary Live to a parking structure.

This is essentially the plan for Stampede once Scotia Place opens. 5a street is meant to be the main north vehicle access point during large events that close Stampede trail to traffic, and the Saddledome parkade is being retained.

Can you still shortcut through there now that they're starting to set stuff up for Stampede? I too like to shortcut through there but haven't been brave enough to try in the last month or so.

Yes, as of yesterday you could still get through, although Stampede trail was closed at 14 Ave. So you have to go behind the Saddledome. More options on a bike or walking than driving.
