Well that would be their choice, if they want to, awesome! We don't NEED them to though. The foot traffic, road network, venues, and access are all in place by next summer, it's prime for investment.

I'd encourage anyone to look into Water Street Tampa. That's what I envision it to look like, less of an entertainment district. True, they are going to build a smaller entertainment venue (ala, saddledome/stampede site in ycc), but largely its a 3-4 block neighborhood, with tasteful landscaping on a normal grid. There's no "plaza" per say, 1-2 office buildings, a hotel or two, 3-4 residential buildings, 4-5 restaurants, some more quick service food. They aren't funneling people into one space, or getting rid of streets...it's just a normal, parcel by parcel development. A continuation of East Village, basically
Water Street is pretty awesome, although it only started to develop less than a decade ago, and the arena opened in 1996 (meaning that any day now, the Lightning will start shaking down various levels of government to build them a new, state-of-the-art facility). Hopefully it doesn't take 20 years for the land around Scotia Place to develop.

Looks like that gap above the ramp is now fully filled in, with the ramp still in place below.

Yeah that is cheap. That will be the second most important street and they took the cheap way out once again.
Cheap way out lol? Wild take. People complain about tax dollars for arenas, and then want side streets with street pavers....you cant win sometimes!! Will have zero, zero impact on anyone's experience, as long as the sidewalks/lighting/landscaping are improved, which they are. 12th will see significantly more foot traffic, btw

Cheap might not be the correct take but 14th does have THE plaza. Maybe once "Calgary Live" is done they change 14th to pavers.

Stampede Trail has pavers, that is THE pedestrian friendly street/corridor, why do the other streets need them, let alone the street to nowhere. They are a poor idea in our climate, just adding costs now and later for something that doesn't provide any functional purpose

I want my car to rumble on pavers as much as possible when I drive past the almost finished arena project next spring!

In all seriousness, you're right, pavers are not worth it on 14th. I do stand by my point about 14th's importance will increase with "Calgary Live" though. I'm also curious how they direct people from Victoria Park Station to the arena, I think the best way to get to the arena will be via the 13th Ave portal between the BMO and Cowboys Casino. That will have people crossing Stampede Trail, which I think, as you point out, will be a pedestrian street.
