It’s going to be interesting to see how fatigue impacts both teams tonight. The Jays did swap out some players early, and of course Springer was injured. However, that means that their top line players are more rested, whereas the Dodgers played their top players right into the very late innings, so they may be more fatigued. I stuck in till the end, and it was quite the game with lots of excitement and ups and downs from both sides.

I stayed till the end. Then i had to do some work on the computer, i went to bed just after 4 :30, and i saw the lady across the street was walking her dogs before she leaves for work at 5 am lol Normally i drink one cup of coffee in the morning. Today i have had four..... might have another cup soon.

Even though the jays lost, you have to admit that game was pretty damn impressive! We went that far with mostly bench players and we didn't have to use any of our playoff starters.

Indeed, I stayed up until 3 am watching it.

By the end of the game, I think both teams both just wanted to go home due to fatigue.

Given the timings, I actually wondered if MLB would call it. It was just after midnight in LA when the game ended and just after 3 am here in Toronto.

Both teams had used their benches up along with all their relievers. At one point, I think it was Ernie Clement who injured himself but stayed in due to not having anyone to replace him.

The Dodgers even considered putting a position player on the mound and we considered putting todays starter out there because we had no more relievers.

I think if this went past the 18th you would have seen some sort of actions taken by MLB given the situation. It was quickly becoming untenable.
Unless there was some pre-existing rule in place, I doubt there is any way for the Commissioner to call up in the middle of the night. I would still be a tie, so then what? Even the NHL drops their time-limiting rules for the playoffs. Calling a game would likely be poor for network and ad revenues. At the end of the day, this is a business.

There might be some off-season discussions but I doubt they will amount to a change.

They could just adopt the same extra innings rule as the regular season now has which is that each team starts its 1/2 inning with a runner on second.

The odds of a team or both teams scoring increase significantly, which was exactly the point.

It wouldn't be impossible that both teams could go scoreless or match each other exactly every inning, but the liklihood of 18 innings would certainly fall off substantially. ( I believe the longest game was 13 innings in the regular season, but could stand to be corrected on that)

I stopped watching after the late strike call on a very high pitch that resulted in Bichette being picked off at first base. I never expected the league to allow the Blue Jays in the current political climate anyways. MLB has already been in the crosshairs of the Trump administration with the DEI thing and the changing of Cleveland Indians to Guardians, so the last thing they want is a foreign team to win the World Series. I try to keep my expectations low.

It's playoff baseball. Sometimes the games are long. But it was a damned good game.

Yep, we haven't seen a World Series game like this since 2018. It rarely happens. When does it makes for great baseball. I hope they don't change the rules. On the bus this morning, i over heard some University aged kid talking about how great of a game it was, and he watched till the end and only had four hours of sleep. I know how he feels 😆

Blue Jays played 19 innings against Cleveland on Canada day, in 2016 that lasted six hours and 13 minutes. That was without the pitch clock!

In 2014 I watched the start of a game against the Tigers at 7:07, finished work and got home to see the last pitch of the game at 1 am.

That was 19 innings.
