"As of 2008, the total cost of Kansai Airport was $20 billion including land reclamation, two runways, terminals, and facilities."

Kansai is built in relatively shallow water. Lake Ontario gets pretty deep quite rapidly. The third thick black line is about 30 m depth. So maybe somewhere in the Humber Bay could work. Green is quite deep.

Former Mayor Art Eggleton is the latest to come out against the airport expansion.

basically 5 arguments:
- traffic
- noise
- effects to boating
- portlands
- parking

I think its crazy people drive to the airport anyway. traffic concerns can be handwaved away by better planning in the area. why are cars allowed to take the ferry anyway? just ban cars down eirean quay
Noise, no one has even countered because as previously discussed the a220's are apperently not much louder then the dash-8. People just say "jets loud" which is just not what the concern is.
Effects to boating, I couldnt care less for the private taxis. The ontario place marina i also couldnt care less for.
Portalnds, Seems like ford is aware of this. Im sure something wil be figured out. Remember this is the same guy who approved an mzo for downtown toronto before realizing orange would have issues with it.

And it's sinking anyway, no?

What's the point in building an exorbitantly expensive island airport 10km away from Pearson?

Isn't part of the noise argument the immense increase in flights vs the pure decible level? Like, if you have double the planes that are similar in volume, you still have twice the noise. It's not my favourite argument against the aiprort, as I think it should be dempolished for many other reasons, but there would be an increase in noise disturbance.

Beats me.

Surely the Pearson expansion plan can add more capacity than the wildest dreams for BB (10m pax/yr) for less than $5B.

Right but no one has said that. its all jetsjetjets and "theyre so much louder".

If they said theyre opposed to more planes itself, then id agree since a plane once per hour is way different than once every 2 minutes but thats not what people are saying

To protest it would be funny if someone blasted the sounds of airplane jet engines through speakers at Doug Ford's house every night.

The A220 is quieter than the dash 8.
If you look at a recent study (that I really should link) for the comparable London City airport, those 2 jets were relatively comparable to the Dash 8.

And I'm sure we'll slowly get quieter jets - especially with the advent of electric engines. Perhaps one day it's the turboprops they'll be banning
