Haven´t been to Ibiza yet... going in March with a friend. I remember Mykonos in Greece was super-expensive, but really good. I saw Armand van Helden spin at a club at SuperParadiseBeach there 2 years ago! I´m very excited to check Ibiza out... I´ve only been to Majorca and Barcelona in Spain so far.

j> I came of age in Windsor in '93 - started going to detroit soon after. Mostly the Shelter. Later, many many times to the Motor Lounge.

You must have went to some legendary parties during that period - Jeff Mills, may/saunderson/atkins etc. you is lucky.

*BLOW UP @ Lee's

When i moved to TO in '00 i went weekly to the El Mocambo - but since it moved, i only went twice - didn't so much like it at Lee's...but mostly cuz other things seem to come up on saturday nights now.

*SCHOOL DISCO @ Joe

Nah - seems to cheeseball. Plus it's in clubland and i can imagine the bad people there would bug me too much.

*HOT TIMEZ in Kensington Mkt.

Been to a few. They are indeed fun. I have been to a number of niche events (mostly in the same genre of Hot Timez) at that Club 56. funny little place.

*MOD CLUB @ Revival and Lava Lounge

Lava version is ok. And it is, at times, the best looking night in toronto. But i try and boycott the mod club as much as possible, and i gave the Revival version two chances, but it was ruined by college street people. argh. those women and their wedding crown things, etc. wretched. plus, i find the mod club promotors stupid.

*VAZALLEEN & Lee's (which I already know some of you go to)

often the best party in toronto. dirty and slutty in all the good ways. a boy can dance to guns and roses and madonna and le tigre in the same breath. also, every type of gay person is there: the straights, the squares, the twinks, the butch lesbians, the lipstick lesbians, the bears...inclusive is good. and it's super good that both sexes go - the way gay culture has this lesbian vs. gay aparthied is like sooooooo gay.

i had a few things to goto last friday so i didn't happen by Lee's until 1:30am, but there was a lineup to the Tim Hortons...so i kept walking.

Simplydan-
You'll love Ibiza! Yes, it's expensive, but hey, what can do. Chances are if you can afford to go there, you can afford to pay the price of admission to the clubs. It's basically a party island where the action never stops (but better if you go in the summer). Just being in a club with thousands of people from every corner of the globe is so exiting.
Then, after you're all washed up for partying, you can retreat to the Canary Islands for a little R&R.
That's what I did :)

I think almost everyon reaches a point where they realize that most clubs, no matter where you go (for a certain kind of music) are exactly the same.

shawn,

You would have passed me in that line! We got in the line two freakin' hours earlier at 11:35pm at which point it was wrapped all the way around Tim Horton's and down into the "Green P" parking lot behind Lee's. By 1:35, we were five away from the door and the bouncer said they absolutely weren't letting anyone else in. So we went for a quick drink at Paupers and that was it. A waste of evening. :|

Argh - so sad. It's a judgement call, but usually after 15 mins, i won't wait inline. Especially if you know the club is full, and the line is just moving through attrition. $7 usually ensures people stick around inside for a bit. Thing about vazaleen, i always feel pressure to get their early, which is a drag. Usually try to be there by 10:30. So early.

True. But you could also reach a point where you realize everything is the same. Every beach. Every mountain hike. Every sexual encounter. Every beer. Every kiss. Every art opening. Every meal.

There is something to be said about rituals. People have been going to church every week hearing the same stuff forever, and they continue to do so. So, i submit, good music, and good clubs (this is another debate, but a good club has a sense of community rather than simply a place to get laid and see hot chicks that put out) have a positive effect on our lives. My life anyway.

"But you could also reach a point where you realize everything is the same. Every beach. Every mountain hike. Every sexual encounter. Every beer. Every kiss. Every art opening. Every meal."

That is the most depressing line I´ve read in a long time! I´m 21 years old - if that ever happens to me, I´ll jump out of my 10-storey window without a second thought!

To add to that: Although I love checking out hot new bars and clubs all over the world - and have amazing memories and experiences from some of them - I have had some of the best experiences at the shittiest places you could imagine. I met the love of my life at a dank basement called the Underground in Guelph, and I always have the most fun when I´m with my friends at Woodys in Toronto, London Pub in Richmond Hill, Ebar in Guelph, Harbour Irish Pub in Rostock and Roses in Berlin ...my point is simply that sometimes the worst places are often the most fun and you have the best memories from them. It´s always who you´re with, not where you are.

Of course it's who you're with and where you are. But I think I'd rather hang out with friends at a pub than a club. Can't talk much at a club. I still enjoy going once in a while if I feel like dancing, but after a while you don't find 2nd hand smoke and screaming to talk to entertaining.

OMG, Simply Dan, I've been to the Underground in Guelph! Years ago a friend of mine used to d.j. Friday night's at the Underground and we used to go and support him pretty much every Friday for a a year or two. I'll never forget the way the club upstairs -- "The Palace" (I think it is/was called) -- had a glass dance floor that looked down into the Underground. Some of my hetero-inclined male friends would always dance under the glass floor in anticipation of sneeking a peak up some unsuspecting girl's skirt. Good times. :b
