A week later... did you hear anything back?
Hell no. It's been busy at work but when I get some free time today I'll resend and cc the other councilors, you know, the ones who actually respond to their constituents...Will report back if anything changes.

Well, I got an almost immediate response from Andrew Knack...deferring to Anne's staff member (the same one who responded to another email) who eventually responded apologizing for not responding earlier. They are waiting to hear from development compliance and will get back to me. The saga continues.

Don't forget about the humble bureaucrats :)

I submitted a 311 complaint about this lot on May 18. Within a few days, it got forwarded to the city's development compliance team. A few days ago, one of their staff members gave me a call, asked some context questions, and said he'd walk down there to check it out. I just got off the phone with him again, and he said the following:

-The parking company is Diamond Parking.
-Not only do they lack a permit for this parking lot, but they don't even have the correct zoning (the zoning is still the same as before the old apartment here burned down).
-He's going to send an order that they immediately remove all vehicles from this lot, and lock the gate to prevent more vehicles from parking here. By July 6, they must remove all signage and any online content advertising this as a paid parking lot.
-He is also issuing a fine, and will walk there every week - if they continue to allow vehicles to park there, or don't remove the signage by July 6, he will continue to issue more fines!

He also thanked me for submitting the report; since this was caught early, they can clearly demonstrate that rules were violated and shut it down, rather than seeing a similar situation to the other illegal lots that have been around for decades and have to be dealt with a softer approach.

I owe you a beer or 5 or 500. THANK YOU!

If there is a Santa Claus, they'll fine both the operator and the land owner.

When I drove by this site this morning, all the signs were still up. Any ideas of how long it would take the city to take this down? Should I give them a few more days before calling 311 again? I was sort of hoping for swift and decisive action, but alas, that doesn't seem to be happening.

Says they have until July 6 to remove all signage.
That being said, they have to keep the gates locked to prevent anyone from using that lot. If you see the gate unlocked, or vehicles using the lot, absolutely report it to 311 ASAP. @ADob

Reported via 311 app.

Well, the gate was wiiiiiide open this morning. 311, here I come! Guess this shows how worried about consequences the owner is . It's also weird that they'd have sat on what was essentially ruins for so many years only to turn it into a parking lot around the precise time the city decided to crack down on them (theoretically).
