This is just the first part of the project; the entire thing won't wrap up until late 2026. The project renderings do show trees (and butterflies?) being included. Same goes for the design plan.

I hope 99 St is fully reopened soon. I'm worried about the folks in The Citadel Theatre and the PlayWright restaurant.

Downtown Construction Updates

• The 99 Street (and Judy Padua Way) Streetscaping and Waterproofing project is expected to complete its first phase and reopen 99 Street later this month. The project is progressing well overall and trending ahead of schedule.

I believe trees cannot be planted on the central section as it's directly on top of the Library Parkade and the roots would potentially interfere with the structure (my guess).

Not true -- roots can be contained and roots can be protected from frost. If the City believes differently then they have some catching up to do.

SUPs downtown are so dumb. Nothing makes me more frustrated than leaving the funicular and being forced to bike along the hotel MacDonald to connect to another SUP on 99st now.

Suburban and small town mindsets.
