Those are old now. Hopefully, a new strategy lays out some need for a flat top. Ironically, these platforms are useful domestically, now that Russia is starting to threaten maritime infrastructure. Very useful for chasing subs.
Agreed. The Australians have flat tops, often used for disaster relief.

No, people have no sympathy for Palestinians because in the eyes of a considerable chunk of the population, violence is perfectly OK as long as it's not our ideological opponents doing it.

But why don't people have as much sympathy for Palestinians as Ukrainians?
Because the Ukrainians didn’t attack, rape and murder Russian civilians. The Ukrainians didn’t start it and just wanted to be left in peace.

What's happening in Palestine is closer to apartheid era South Africa. With the past 2 years basically being a modern day holocaust.

Comparing it to Ukraine is apples and oranges really.

I wasn't aware that the entire Palestinian people collectively did that. Would you consider it just if someone held you responsible for every depraved crime a Canadian has committed, and punished you accordingly for it, even though those were people you had nothing to do with and you may have even died rather than commit said crime?

Ukraine is "sunflowers" and Russia is "apples", but Trump is "oranges". Palestine is "watermelon" and Israel is "prickly pear".
???????

Yes, absolutely. That’s considered the collateral damage of war. Not every German was a Nazi, but we bombed their cities into the dark ages with the goal of killing and terrorizing every German civilian in order to break their will and output. If Canada’s government bombed another country you can bet that you, I and everyone would be a legitimate target as that country reacted. When the government of Gaza launched its preemptive attack in Oct 2023 that was akin to Japan’s preemptive attack on Pearl Harbour in Dec 1941, after which every citizen of Gaza and Japan were going to be attacked. I do wonder if the citizens of Germany, Japan and now Gaza asked themselves, what the heck was our government thinking? I can guess what the government and military of Israel was saying, mirrored by USN Admiral Halsey after Pearl Harbour, “Before We’re Through With ‘em, the Japanese Language Will be Spoken Only in Hell!”

It's only collateral damage if it were unintentional/accidental (i.e. someone was not the intended target and just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time). Intentionally targeting innocent people is vile and should never be condoned, it's pretty black & white with no gray area.

Riiight, every Canadian and their grandma would be fair game EXCEPT the few who were ACTUALLY responsible in your hypothetical scenario, just because those few are much harder to get to.

I'm not denying that what you're saying is true, but that doesn't make it right.

On the topic of this thread, though, I found this video quite interesting.

@81-717 is correct; collateral damage has never been defined as intentionally targeting civilians just because you, as the govt of one country, has a beef with theirs. This is wildly condemned by international law, and is the reason why, to use your WW2 analogy, things like the firebombing of Dresden, and the mass rape of women in Axis territories by Allied soldiers, aren't shrugged away by historians as "golly gee, I guess that's just the cost of doing war!" And if what you assert is the case, then at what point does something become a red line for you? What would these death enthusiasts have to do for even you to step back and say "Whoa, too far"?

N.B. Russia also published a list of demands to NATO in late 2021. I'm sure they feel as righteous in their cause as the Israelis do. If we let every war mongering fool dictate the conditions of peace vs. war, we've already lost.

Seems to be the Palestinian logic in justifying attacks on civilians in Israel (including several foreign nationals Hamas took hostage).

But really this isn't even about Palestine. This is about pro-Palestinian groups being useful idiots for adversarial foreign powers.

You should tell the Palestinian groups targeting military infrastructure where Ukrainians train. They seem to think these should be linked. I wonder why.....

I guess when you want to learn how to commit war crimes you train with the experts
