It will change for sure, that fresh wall will get tagged ! Maybe a mural of the proposal?

I had actually hoped that the demolition was a prelude to construction. Not the case?

They haven't filed an actual development application here, so no.

That said - if Vranich is planning on building this hotel, I know the City is actively pushing for new hotels downtown so I'm sure this would get prioritized through the application process and could move quickly. There just isn't any sign of that process actually starting yet.

Come now it's not Stinson.
In Buffalo, the city is trying to wrestle the former Adam's Mark hotel (built as a 70s brutalist behemoth Hilton) now called "Buffalo Grand hotel" from Stinson's hands.
He somehow got enough financial backing to buy it, but then during renovation it had a bad fire and has been an unused eyesore since!
It was once 450+ hotel rooms with large meeting/banquet space.

Stinson is where projects go to die.

...problem with surface parking lots is that they tend to last a lifetime and a dog's age. And you're grandchildren might see something built here in their lifetime. /bleh

If I see a single car parked on the lot that was previously a building I will be immediately contacting the ward 2 office and the city. I will reserve that until I actually see it occurring, but if anyone has a photo of the property being used as parking, please immediately report or send the photo to me and I can do it if you'd rather not.

Zoning By-law No. 05-200:

5.6.5 PROHIBITION OF NEW PRINCIPAL SURFACE PARKING LOTS IN
DOWNTOWN ZONES
a) Within any Downtown Zone, no new surface parking lots shall be permitted
except where the parking is accessory to the main use on the same lot.

Edit: I actually decided to pre-emptively email the ward 2 office about this. The above still stands though.

I can't imagine they got permission to pave the entire thing either, pretty sure you'd need site alteration permit for that unless they captured this all in site plan and demo permits.

I took this pic just before 5:00. I went for the panorama. Pretty bold (or foolish) move to try and sneak that in by doing the whole parking lot. Darko must think he's clever.
