It really stands out, which is not a bad thing in this era of safe and somewhat boring greys and blues everywhere.

Green and gold are supposedly U of A colours, so I hope they keep the colour, but adding some green somewhere could help make it less overwhelming and perhaps more interesting.

Probably also some other changes at the main level to make it more inviting and less imposing would help too.

No tears shed here for the Butterdome. If this monstrosity is an icon for Edmonton then we have a problem. Never heard anyone from out of town say ‘wow’ in a positive way when they spotted this building.
Well, I know it is anecdotal, but I've had a few people tell me they found it at least intriguing and funny, which honestly is not a bad thing. It is quirky and very unique, albeit not particularly pretty.

The color and shape is exactly why many of us have an affinity for the building. In a city that stubbornly insists on grey and browns despite half the year being grey and brown its a refreshing blast of color in our dreary and banal architectural hellscape. Updating the building isn't the issue, pretty much everyone would agree that the building is dated and needs an upgrade, personally I would love if the south end had better street integration. The big concern is that administration doesn't seem to value the building's uniqueness and is gonna spend many millions to create another corporate banality. We keep lamenting how previous generations removed anything old with character in the name of progress because they felt old buildings were dated, and yet here we are doing the same. Seriously, wtf is wrong with a fieldhouse looking like a fieldhouse? I will hold of outrage until we see the renderings of the plan, but the rhetoric doesn't fill me with hope.

Also, if you do not have one off these butter dishes, they are fun.

And unfortunately we as a city continually destroy any unique architecture, good or bad because "we know better now"
Yes, it is part of the destroy or tear down mentality that unfortunately is so strong here. A lot of unique, interesting or historic things here were torn down or modified because they no longer fit the current fashion.

It particularly saddens me to see people in newer generations repeating saying and doing these same things again that past generations did.

Unique architecture…are you kidding me. It’s a yellow box. Let’s aim the bar just a tad higher, shall we?

If any of my European family comes here, the last thing I’m going to do is take them to the butterdome and say ‘look at this unique piece of architecture’. They would think I’ve gone mad.

It's unique, and a landmark.i have had visitors from around the world and most like it. But I understand the changes. They can keep the bright yellow but window will lessen the impact at the square of roof lines will reduce the butter block look but the changes may make it look pretty good and still keep the essence of the original look.
