Just came through Banff Yesterday on my way back from the coast. with a stop in Radium. Could not believe the amount of tourist busses stopping along the highway in Banff. Kootaney Park is nicer and shockingly less populated. But even just a half hour up 93 and you leave most to the Banff tourist traffic behind.. Jasper is still my favorite because of that. And with the rebuild of Jasper we will see better services come on stream. GC is great for MTB riding as well. I've ridden in both Nordegg and GC and find them both great. GC has more services though. The highway up is also getting some upgrades this year.

And ADob, my last race in Canmore was enough to break me of my wish to travel there as well. Just driving by yesterday and seeing all the development was a turn off. if I was in possession of 1.5 mill I would drop it on a place on the island long before Canmore. And I have had friends purchase places in Hinton for the get away.
We walked along a real honest-to-goodness traffic jam that stretched for several blocks. Hard nope.

Jasper is great for the quieter crowds. That being said, Highway 16 still should be twinned all the way to the town and bypass Hinton and Edson (as well as widening that weird section at Gainford where it randomly slows down to 80 km/h).

Two bypasses would cost hundreds of millions of dollars (each) without saving much travel time and likely hurt local businesses. Hard pass

The last section to the Gate needs twinning, I don't find the traffic as bad through the Park , but they are adding more passing lanes.

I would love a bypass in Edson but Hinton is ok. The trip last week maybe added 5 or 10 min to the overall trip. I timed the section in Edson where it slows from 110 the returns to 110. took about 8 minutes to run through town. so no real lost. And Hinton is always my prime stop before going into the Park. Kind of what Canmore used to be. (Now its Deadmans Flats).

We have much more pressing transportation issues in this province. Most of those require mass transportation infrastructure in and between cities.

If we must endlessly approve huge road infrastructure spending, the Highway 16 route through Lloydminster is a much bigger bottleneck.

Last trip there I saw the Decores are using modular construction to rebuild, so the construction should move pretty fast once the parade is done. Regrettably I will not be making the regular trip as I've changed contracts.
