Anyone been down to The Well the last few brutally cold days?
I believe some people here said that Toronto doesn't get really cold days anymore 😂
In comparison to Calgary, Edmonton and Winterpeg our days here are not as cold. But we still get cold.

Why are we comparing ourselves to Winnipeg?
So because Winnipeg is colder than us, then that means the open design of The Well is good? Okay...
Sorry but what is your argument here? Are you saying that because the concourse of the Well isn't climate controlled, it's not good? Does that mean our commercial streets are not good? Or what about commercial plazas? Are indoor, climate-controlled malls the only 'good' form of commercial development? Honest question, not really sure where this line of reasoning leads to...

In the past I've stated that the semi-indoor design is the worst of both worlds - it doesn't provide the protection from the elements like an enclosed mall does, and it also doesn't provide the convenience of walking on a main street and quickly popping into a shop.
So yes, my argument is that this semi-open design is absolutely terrible for a city like Toronto in which the weather is either cold or brutally cold for 4 months of the year.

It sounds like nobody went to the Well to see how pleasant or unpleasant it is when it's pretty cold and windy. Toronto may not be as cold as Winnipeg, but there aren't that many cities of 7 million people that regularly get colder than Toronto. Maybe just Moscow and Chicago? Also Harbin and St. Petersburg?

But being from Ottawa, it still amuses me that Torontonians are so chicken about -15 temperatures. Our kid's school was supposed to have a family skating night tonight and they canceled it. It's only -14 right now!

Sounds like this is turning into a mine is bigger than yours discourse... >.<

Even compared to prior years, Toronto winters are getting warmer and less snow
I'm going to the Well this weekend to meet up with friends for dinner and will report back on how it feels

And another:

I will add that the residential population of the immediate area has exploded in the last year with very little added retail (~6000 units) and most people in our fair little burg don’t actually let winter interfere with their lives.

This is definitely true. Ottawa as well. When I was a kid, we used to go skating on the canal regularly over the Christmas holidays, and I don't think it's opened before January more than once over the last 20 years.

Maybe I'll pop by the Well for lunch today and see how it feels.

Taken 22 January at 10am. About the same as you see on surrounding streets. There are Well related videos below.
