I still can't believe how much of the outside is essentially the same.

Same doors, windows, poster frames. It's a different owner, but really wish they would have done something with the Jackson Square rooftop area.
They made it pretty clear up front that the exterior would be cleaned up, but largely unchanged.

What is potentially disappointing is that those seats do not look all that comfy.

It looks pretty true to the renderings to me. Not sure what what else could have been expected.

I think it does look a fair bit better. The outside walks have been re-done. There is a crisp new video sign. Some repairs to the cladding and a fresh paint job. New underside lighting. The TD Coliseum signage also looks much more pleasing than the blue and orange FirstOntario Centre version.
.

I think the outside is looking great, a hell of a lot better than before and I'm happy they put most of the money inside where it matters!

And there's nothing that says there won't be something done down the road.
The more successful the arena becomes and the downtown core improves, the better the chance of real external renovation happening.

I think it's super unlikely. The building will be pushing 50 years of age down the road. What purpose would an external reno serve beyond aesthetic improvement? What value would it generate?

You could ask the same question about other buildings in many cities that got an external renovation merely for aesthetic reasons.

Tell me more...
Look at the stadiums in the US and UK that have exterior renovations (along with interior) - instead of just doing an interior reno only.
Washington's arena is planning a major renovation, and they're not leaving it to interior only. It's going to look MUCH different from the outside when it's done.

It's not just sports buildings. How many museums, hospitals, City Halls have gotten an exterior reno when it was only for aesthetics?

People also forget that this is a serious major venue as far as indoor arenas go. With 17,383 seats for hockey, there are EIGHT NHL teams with fewer seats, and makes it the 32nd largest hockey arena in the world. It's not even 1500 seats less than Scotiabank Arena. The max capacity for concerts is 19,000 - only 800 less than Scotiabank
