Don't know where to find the motion if it has a map...

Edit: nobody from Pickering council was present... I am aware the city has been trying to take over the Petticoat lands, so I'm unsure if related.

Took me a moment, but I found you a map:

Pickering Lands to be used to expand national park space as federal government grounds plans for future airport

After more than half a century of uncertainty, the federal government will announce Monday that it will not be using the land north Pickering for a future airport.
Jan. 27, 2025

It will be interesting to see how much of the 'purple land' on map above is transferred.

@goodcitywhenfinished You're angry at expanding a National Park and preserving green space?

Some foresight would be preferable. Though we are not close at the moment, Pearson will run out of capacity this century. Having land set aside reduces the cost burden that future generations will have to face.

As to green space, I would much rather we focus on increasing green space and tree canopy within our urban boundaries than places that only those with reliable access to private vehicles can use.

^Expansion of existing airports in the western GTA is also an option as is expanding the hours of operation at Pearson to 24 hours.

I certainly favour foresight, but if (big if) we build HSR, I'm not sure Pearson runs out of capacity (keeping in mind it will be further expanded).

That said, a second full airport will make sense at some point, I think Hamilton is likely the better choice vs a new build in the north-east.

Sure, I'm happy to support more green space within the urban area, I'm probably UT's biggest advocate for Parkland.

That said, we're talking about thousands of acres here, that number will not be achieved within City limits, nor can any equivalent ecological value be obtained.

This is not an either/or scenario. The Feds will not be buying tableland parks in Toronto, and the City is not paying for any Rouge Park expansion.

The Hamilton and K/W airport argument has been debated to death at this point. There are numerous reasons those airports continue to be impractical for anyone living east of Oakville.

But this is a thread for a park pavilion lol so I guess we better go into the Pickering airport thread for further discussion.

Surely it's understood that cities evolve and develop over time; especially rapidly growing cities like Toronto?.

No transit today doesn't mean no transit ever. Some times transit goes in before a building or asset gets built and often that happens in reverse. If we only focus on places that already have transit, opportunities to set aside space for future generations will be gone forever. Besides, aren't there eventual plans to extend Sheppard subway to the Toronto Zoo/Rouge Park?

Its a 1-storey building...........and they are starting now............so they're asking 2 full years to complete a 1-storey building?

How? One guy working every second weekend? I mean @Collingwoodbuildinglover is going to have a hard time believing that the Government of Canada is making Pemberton look like fast-paced builders.
I love that I got name dropped here but you don't have to convince me that the government can make Pemberton look efficient but let's have a race see if this building gets completed or the Englinton LRT opens actually I bet if we start a new Gordie Howe bridge we can get it done before either of these projects 🤣🤣🤣
