A few taken from Leaside bridge this evening.
And then there is this. Why do we find out about this from Toronto Sun, Apr 23 2026??
Well this is how you burn any goodwill in community. This ESB has been the first structure started, and Metrolinx paid for ads for the businesses next to this construction (indicated blue on map) to remind people they are open. And 2 years later, they are going to demolish it.
It must be petrifying living along Pape right now. And no indication what will replace a block of houses and businesses in final form. Cynical me would expect empty lot and ESB like on Eglinton LRT.
That's a crazy amount of expropriation! I live in this neighbourhood, so it's really painful to see it being ripped apart shred-by-shred. Can't even predict if our block will be next. And then there is this. Why do we find out about this from Toronto Sun, Apr 23 2026??
I kinda hoped this isn't true, given the way the information appeared. But not knowing what is going on is also a major communication problem from/for Metrolinx. That's a crazy amount of expropriation! Absolutely agree. This is a pretty sneaky way of disclosing the expropriation, if it's even true. Guess we have to just wait until they do the next community meeting for additional information.I kinda hoped this isn't true, given the way the information appeared. This is the update that demolition work is starting. They announced the expropriations and change to the construction plan a long time ago.Absolutely agree. Oh, I must have missed that announcement. Can you please share the link of the original announcement? ThanksThis is the update that demolition work is starting. They announced the expropriations and change to the construction plan a long time ago.
I agree it's brutal to see so much of Pape torn down the past few years and just hope the eventual replacements include affordable apartments and small storefronts that can spawn another Gianni's or Tzatziki, let alone the dozen of places that closed up at Gowan.
Page 9 only talks about the six additional properties between Aldwych and Sammon, on the east side of Pape (i.e. Tzatziki restaurant, etc.). No mention of the residential properties on Muriel, Aldwych, and Pape Ave. Though the revised alignment on Page 8 shows the impacted properties. It was around about a year ago IIRC - it was definitely discussed in here
edit: it was May 2025 - on pages 8 and 9 in here - https://assets.metrolinx.com/image/upload/Images/Metrolinx/PapeDanforthandSammonCLC_May2025.pdf
I doubt they're all full expropriations resulting in full demolitions. I bet some of them are just some kind of easement.Verified this online on the Toronto Sun newspaper, dated Apr 23. BTW, it is accessible via PressReader linked through Toronto Public Library.
Here's the list of addresses being expropriated:
Muriel Ave: 2 through 98 Muriel Ave (even numbers only, i.e. all the houses on Muriel Ave west side between Gertrude Pl and Aldwych Ave)
Pape Ave: 801 through 871 Pape Ave (odd numbers only; for some strange reason, excludes 813 Pape Ave)
Aldwych Ave: 1 Aldwych Ave
This covers 87 properties. Just shocking!
Unfortunately, that's not the case. All of these are fee simple expropriations.I doubt they're all full expropriations resulting in full demolitions. I bet some of them are just some kind of easement.
I think for the Pape properties, ML is not planning to demo them, but also claimed that they would be unsafe to live in during construction.Though I doubt they'll demo these right away. This looks very similar to the expropriations on Pape Ave west side, between Riverdale Ave and Langley Ave.
