You could easily run a replacement streetcar (with several possible loops) from Exhibition Loop to West Harbour hitting all the stations. And then you can use a replacement bus from West Harbour station to Don Valley station that effectively combines the 25 and 72 buses, but only stopping at all the station.

Though I have been on a Line 2 replacement buse that was also stopping at the regular (non overnight) stops on Danforth.

With the way the TTC runs streetcars, you can be rest assured that the kind of streetcar "replacement" service would be extremely useless.

One would be better off biking, or in some cases even walking.

Excuse me while I jump on a soapbox, grab a loudspeaker, and announce to nobody in particular: Metrolinx really needs to rename "West Harbour" and "East Harbour" stations to "Hamilton - West Harbour" and "Toronto - East Harbour" BEFORE the new station at Broadview and Eastern Ave opens. So much tragedy could be averted.

Rides will get off the Go train in Hamilton and wonder why there aren’t even any way finding signs to the Ontario Line.

It's like when they renamed Oshawa station to "Durham College" because the college bought the naming rights. Some people disembarked at the station reasonably expecting to be at Durham College. But, of course, they weren't anywhere near Durham College. Eventually the station was renamed "Durham College Oshawa GO" to reduce confusion.

I'm confident that most people know whether they mean to be in Toronto or Hamilton. But I think it's unnecessarily confusing to have "East Harbour" and "West Harbour" as station names without more.

People on this site are likely more knowledgeable and interested in these projects than the average person, and we've already got multiple posts confusing these station names.

I think quite reasonably you'd have a streetcar replacing the downtown segment to WH and a bus for the upwards segment- if a downtown OL substitution is required at all as opposed to just running more streetcars on existing routes and on 2+1.

The biggest users of a bustitution would be local riders from one station to two or three stations down, like Don Mills to Pape. Most people who are riding to downtown will probably do what they do now-- stay on 2/5 and then interchange at Bloor-Yonge / Eglinton downtown, and LSW if you're going to Ex.

FINGERS CROSSED subway shutdowns on the OL should be very rare given the automation and PSD.

Even crazier is how if you mix up Eglinton / Eg. West, you simply take a short subway ride, but a E/W harbour mix up can put you back like 2 hours if done incorrectly

That being said, it is a step in the right direction-- i just wish they committed to the bit.

I'm really surprised how Metrolinx is okay with opening a new Mount Pleasant station on Line 5 when there's already a Mount Pleasant station on the Kitchener GO line! So from Mount Dennis you can take a train or an LRT in opposite directions to Mount Pleasant!

And then there's the two Eglinton stations (in addition to Eglinton West now Cedarvale). The one in Scarborough should be renamed Bellamy.

Lol just wait until YNSE rolls around. You'll have people confused when there is "Line 1 to Vaughan" even though both sides of the line will go to Vaughan. And assuming they say "Line 1 to Richmond Hill" for the other side it will be just as bad because people who are actually going to that part of Vaughan will think they are going in the wrong direction. Or maybe it's not so bad because Thornhill has enough of an identity that people don't casually refer to it as Vaughan.

According to the 2025 "Sunshine" list...

The annual salary disclosures which track the number of public servants earning $100,000 or more revealed that last year Metrolinx paid 118 people with “vice president” in their title, up from 82 the year before.​

The 2026 list comes out in April. (Unless it the list is on Doug's phone.)
