It's a shadow of its former self. So lame and trendy and douchey now. None of the pizzazz of before...
But by a "shadow of its former self what" exactly what former self are you referring too ? The recent hay day (purely from a high rent, high demand, very high occupancy) maybe say 5-10 years ago was curtsey of said trendy stores (many larger chains) and restaurants ... go back 10+ years earlier and it was quite a bit more rundown (again purely from the perspective many vacant spaces) but what many would have considered "interesting" retail.

Helen + Hildegard, a boutique health and beauty store at 1174 Queen Street West near Dufferin, will be closing with their last day set for January 19, 2025

Interesting to see Province of Canada opening a new shop on Ossington. They've been a staple on Queen East and to see them expand is great to see!

The Reigning Champ store at 383 Queen Street West has closed. Some additional commentary:

Management at the Ossington store — now the sole outpost of the company left in downtown Toronto — confirmed the news to blogTO this week, saying that the closure was simply a matter of the area "no longer being a shopping destination."

"They decided not to renew the lease," they said, noting the numerous other recent closures along the stretch, which have included big brands like H&M and Zara.

The former retail giant permanently shuttered its landmark, multi-storey location back in late 2022, while the latter closed its similarly large storefront without warning this past fall.

Both had been in operation for more than 15 years. Reigning Champ was located in between them, just steps away along the seemingly-dying strip where not even big players are finding the costs of doing business in the neighbourhood worthwhile.

Just wondering if anyone has any updates on the previously mentioned No Frills being put in at McCowan and Kingston Road in Scarborough.

https://www.blogto.com/eat_drink/2024/11/no-frills-cliffcrest-plaza-toronto/

It was mentioned on BlogTO a few months ago but when I passed there recently it still had signs up saying "For Lease" with no No Frills branding up. It has me wondering if the store fell through.

Presse Internationale, a magazine store has been around for almost 2 decades at 537 Bloor St W in the Annex, are closing due to a rent increase by the landlord.

Taisho Japanese Grill is expected to take the space in the future

Breaking news - the rumoured death of Presse Internationale has been greatly exaggerated! I saw that they have reopened about a block to the east on a second floor. Maybe I'll take a little trip down memory lane and see if they still have any smut on the shelves 😈

Glory Hole Doughnuts at Gerrard & Coxwell will be closing in about 3 months

Thai Mart has opened at 496 Yonge Street, northwest corner with Grosvenor Street. They're a convenience store that sells snacks, drinks and also ready made meals:

The former Sportchek at 2529 Yonge is finally leased. I’m assuming the owners were hoping to sell to a condo developer, otherwise I’m not sure why it sat vacant for so long.

I couldn’t find any info online as to what this is going to be.

Expo Vintage Clothing at 1978 Dundas St W (the article had quoted the wrong address) will be closing at the end of October as the property has been operating without a valid business license approved by the city. They plan to transition the space into a takeout pizza joint in the short time and then into a permanent restaurant, bar and concert venue later on:
