An interesting choice, not unwelcome.

See the attached.

I used to go to the old Central Library all the time. I actually like that location better (actually on the main strip of downtown, right by the river), but I remember the building felt tired even 20 years ago. Getting a nice new building while still keeping elements of an old(er) building is a pretty good result. Hopefully it'll also cause more development of the surface parking lots around it and expand downtown past the one street.

A couple of things. The town is looking at another vertical parking structure for downtown, in one of the current surface lots.. there is some discussion of digging as well. Why they are not combining a sub surface lot with vertical development is a question?

I agree with you 100% re the current library. Lovely but tired. Great location. And then the question is….what is happening with that property? There has certainly been lots of talk with the pool property closing, possibly revamping of the theatre complex and now the library. Plenty of scope for something unique on a lovely site. Please, just not condos.

At least they kept some of the old post office. The canopy looks great.

I presume the canopy faces the river valley. This is an instance where another floor would have been warranted, there are a couple of older and taller apartment buildings near by, but really just to augment the view up the valley. But looking good.

(It will be interesting when they redevelop the closed fire station, and then as currently standing one building - the closed central pool, the closing central library (after the above is complete) and the revamp of the existing performance auditorium, what exactly they will come up with. The access and views to the river valley are there now, but could really be enhanced to the Towns general benefit. Maybe there will be a new mayor by then, Burton is rumoured to be the next Doug Ford appointee to Regional Chair, as apparently Halton Residents don't have the wherewithal to vote for a PC Developer Friendly candidate who opposes the Greenbelt, and agriculture but loves quarries and golf courses......but i digress.)
