A presentation regarding the engineering behind the line:

Starting at 35:15 future proofing of the line was briefly discussed including:
-platform extensions at all stations except at Cooksville GO
-Infill stations at World Drive, Skyway Drive and Highway 407
-Southern extension from Port Credit GO
-Northern extension from Brampton Gateway
-City Centre loop
-2 additional stabling tracks at the OMSF

I imagine the extension south from Port Credit is to support an extension down Lakeshore, if that becomes feasible. Kind of interesting that Cooksville stop is not designed for two car trains--I imagine that would require a major reconstruction to enable the transition to two car operation (not very useful to have all but one stop compatible with two car operation).

Rare to see reasonable coverage from this media outlet without excessive bias injection. They did a reasonable job to report on last week's Brampton LRT extension decision to spend the next 6 months tabling the $2.8B tunnel design to governments.
Not sure what happens after 6 months if this approach sees lack of progress.

^ they didn't mention the context of how Hamilton and the some of the other projects in Toronto got 50-50 fed-prov funding when they mentioned a funding model at the end. The shot at "engineering" lacked mentioning both tunnel and surface are 30% design. Queen BRT won't get there for a year. Eglinton East LRT is at 10%. Waterfront LRT is at 30% apparently. Can't remember what Cambridge LRT is at.

So in their enthusiasm to criticize Brown and concern for the tunnel cost, they don't seem willing to note that staff say that both are technically feasible.

So with both options at 30% design, is the surface design still progressing to 60% while the tunnel is being shopped to governments? The article mentions $190k in the budget for an EA which I assume is only for the tunnel. The surface would get an EA study only if the tunnel option is dropped..
Is there any way to estimate a process timeframe when the tunnel strategy could see an end if it produces no results? Or is this completely arbitrary on the will of council?

re tunnel proceeding to 60%, we only have the text of the staff report and the amended staff recommendation by Council to go by. It sounds like they (members of Council and staff) want to have discussions with MPs/MPPs, and staff report back, and then proceed with a TPAP and I assume further design work. It's annoying the article doesn't link to the actual budget page/description for the $190k etc amounts. Just because it has been budgeted, doesn't mean it will actually be spent. It may only be spent depending on how the discussions go. We'll see.

Noticed at lunch today that they were delivering and installing the bridge spans over Centre View Dr. at Rathburn.

Have taken a back step in photographing the last few weeks as well look at things. More shots up on my site.

May 27 starting at 7pm to 6am May 29, the full intersection of Burnhamthorpe and Hurontario is close to traffic and transit. I may miss this event as I am supposed to be at a family event out of town that weekend.

So stay away as all streets will be a parking lot

QEW
Forming in place for extending the push box to support the missing QEW lane along with retaining walls.

The north side new road is been graded to allow the pouring of the new road bed.

Not much happening from the QEW to Burnhamthorpe

Port Credit
The push box is now pocking its head out the north of the rail corridor with excavation under way to dig the area so the rest of the box can be push out.

Forming of station wall underway as well the stairway to the platform.

Forming of the Englewood bridge retaining wall on both side of the completed bridge, Retaining walls gone as far north at this time for the Mary Fix Creek until the existing bridge is removed.

Road curb pour coming out of the GO parking lot the will have a wide sidewalk between the new curb and the Mary Fix Creek Retaining Wall

80% of the elevated section is now fully erected leaving the 403 bridge and the westbound on ramp to be built.

They have dug down about 8 feet below Rathburn and building support slab to support the retaining wall from the elevated section to grade level.

They have repaved the area where City Center station was to be to the point the station could be north of this pave area now. Looks like the construction of the station has been pushed down the line at this time.

Noticed they have added an extension to the bottom of the south pier retaining wall.
