Such slow progress. Something that could have been completed in two years by another first-world city will take Toronto 5+ years to deliver. One bulldozer working the whole site, it's rather embarrassing to watch. So many trees cut down, habitat destroyed, and the building work has not even started ( was supposed to start in December 2023). No sign of the promised wetland restoration and planting that was supposed to happen in September 2023 - December 2023.

This probably fits here...

Some updates on construction of the park from today

A lot of heavy construction equipment is gone, but some remains:

Armour stone work looks to be complete around the whole shoreline:

Some stonework looks yet to be finished:

A lot of the previously graded areas have been fully/partially replanted:

Pedestrian bridges that are in place have the untreated rusted metal aesthetic:

The snaking stream is taking shape, the concrete footings are for the pedestrian walkway that will snake across the snaking stream:

Not sure if the use of concrete for this retaining wall was warranted. They had a lot of armour stone for this project.

is there somewhere we can find out how much this building is going to cost us?

When a tender is awarded the price will be known, I do not think one has yet been awarded.

@DSCToronto is correct that we don't know what the as-built cost will be.

However, when I peruse the Capital Budget for 'new building - east Humber' there are 3 line items totaling just over 11M; one assumes it would be in that range.

A Member Motion at Council seeks to spend money on an urgent basis to redesign what was just done at Humber Bay East.

Residents are unhappy that the once sandy beach is gone in favour of rough, large stones, and access to the water is now fairly limited as compared to before.

Apparently they were under the impression from staff that this was not the design intent.

So now, the Councillor would like to spend $155,000 to urgently redesign the new work, and how much more to re-do it entirely? Ummmm, a lot.

If staff mislead the public, someone should honestly lose their job, I'm not one for saying that, and less so publicly, but that would be bad. If, however, this design was presented to the public and the councillor and did not get
any objections, we ought not be spending money re-do what we just did, there are surely countless better and wiser ways to spend precious dollars.

Looking back through this thread, @FullMetalEngineer posted many great pics showcasing the work that's been done and discussing the beach backlash.

Such slow progress.
Slow indeed. I used to sail my remote control boat here. Was this site in such disrepair that we needed to scour it from the landscape for half a decade?

And now there's no where in the city where one can sail remote control boats. I've run mine on the lake, but that's risky.
