Musing granted. Having said that, this is a beautiful shack any Gardiner hobo would be proud to live in!
 
This is coming to the Executive Committee's Budget Meeting on 17 February:

"The General Manager of Economic Development and Culture, with Financial Planning staff, report to Budget Committee no later than April 2011 on the funding status of the Fort York Visitor Centre Project."

Something to watch for, they are clearly still short of money and if some (external) funding is not found I fear for the project!

I fear for it too..but then again this is a proposal and when was the last time a pedestrian bridge has been built over the rail corridor here in Toronto....lately way to much red tape with every single proposed bridge development over rail land here in Toronto, dont get it.

Description: This is for the Fort York lands known as 100 Garrison Road and 800 Fleet Street to permit the construction of a two storey Visitor Centre complete with roof terrace and related commercial uses to include a gift shop and a restaurant with more than 30 seats. There is also a parking area for approx. 60 vehicles and bus parking located south of the building.
 
The building permit application looks to be only for the Visitor's Centre (which would be open for the bicentenial). No mention of the bridge, but that doesn't mean it's not happening.
 
So I'm assuming that none of this will be ready for the bicentennial... which is next year. Pathetic. Typical.
 
Not even the Fort York Visitor center ?
 
Does anybody know if anything is under construction here? There haven't been any updates so I've assumed it's at a stand-still.

The Centre is apparently coming along and this is in the March 2011 issue of the Friends of Fort York Newsletter:

Having finished the detailed design of the Visitor Centre,
the project team (Patkau Architects & Kearns Mancini
Architects Inc., O.P. McCarthy, staff of Toronto Culture, and
others) has spent the last few months preparing the project
for construction tender. Final costing has recently been
completed to ensure that the project comes in on budget
and a short list of general contractors has been established
to bid on the work. The final package to be tendered
includes the Visitor Centre, the adjacent parking lot, and a
very modest first phase of landscaping in the area directly
adjoining the building.
Pending a firm commitment on the part of the province,
which has given every encouragement so far that it will
contribute funds for the construction of the Visitor Centre,
the project is scheduled for tender by 1 May, with an award
of contract to follow shortly after. This schedule will allow us
to meet the required deadline for using the federal funding
committed towards the project by 31 March 2012.
